Any Juan know anything about boat motors/starters?

Dec 4, 2018, 3:32 PM

Boat ran fine three days ago. Went to crank it yesterday and nothing. Put brand new battery in boat and starter spins like hell, but won't rise to engage the flywheel. Been told it could be a bad starter solenoid or the starter...anyone ever had any issue like this?

All serious answers appreciated. Lunge replies mostly expected.

I seem to recall McLovin having a similar issue a few

years back. As I recall he checked the lint trap and then slept with his sister. Not sure if that fixed it, but seems worth a shot.

I did have a starter issue with my nitro, but that was 2014

I had issues with a tractor recently, but it was wiring and not the starter.

Have you tried restarting the router?

Dec 4, 2018, 3:40 PM

Once you do that, then turn it off and turn it back on again and the motor should crank fine. Fingers crossed.

Sounds like the lenker rod is not engaging the bull float.

Dec 4, 2018, 3:54 PM

You can probably fix it if you have a spud wrench, but you may want to check and see if manifold compressor bearing is cracked first.

Do you know if you are getting spark? If the starter is engaging the flywheel and nothing is happening, I would check and see if you are getting spark.

If you are getting spark, but still nothing, check your fuel line coming into the motor. I am assuming it’s an outboard.

If you feel like fuel is getting there and you have spark, you need to clean the carburetor (given it’s not a four stroke) more specifically the low speed jet, which tends to clog first.

That’s all I got.
