Another metric...

Jan 17, 2019, 4:16 PM

A simple one, but to make a point. EVERY great team has close games. So to throw TAMU in our face is just ignorance. Anyone can score at will on weak competition. So to use the garbage time rule, does a 50-0 win mean you are any better than a 30-0 win? You can call your score at that point. Here's the closest games of the most recent "Greatest Teams of All Time"

2018 Clemson 2 TAMU
2013 FSU.... 3 Aub
2005 Tex.... 3 OSU/USC
2004 USC.... 3 Stan
2001 Miami.. 2 VT
1997 Neb.... 3 Colo
1995 Neb.... 14 WSU
1971 Neb.... 4 Ok

That fantastic FSU team? Squeaked past Aub by 3. The All Pro Miami team? Barely escaped VT by 2. Only '95 Nebraska stands out as dominating EVERY team they played by 14+ points. And that team, that held Neb to only +14, was a 3-8 Washington State team. 3 and 8.

Of all these teams listed , all have opponent win percentages between .53 and .57. The outlier is Clemson 2018, with a .62. So of all those greats listed, WE had the hardest schedule, and WE won 15 games. So aside from the All-Star 1945 Army team with 7 million recruits courtesy of Uncle Sam, my vote for best of all time goes to Clemson 2018.

the 2010 Auburn team that won the national title with Cam.....

beat Clemson by only 3 in Overtime I believe.....

And beat U of SuC by almost 40 in the SEC Championship game.......

Yep

They beat Bama by 1, MSU by 3, Ky by 3, and us by 3 in OT. Then beat Oregon by 3 in NC game. Point to the critics again being, no one rolls EVERYONE, unless your schedule marsh mellow soft.

Nebraskas lowest point total of the season was still higher

than their season high allowed. You could literally take their worst offensive output, pair it with their worst defensive game and they would still win.

That was easily the most dominant team of my lifetime.
