Another Greatest Generation Tiger laid to rest

Apr 2, 2013, 3:41 PM

The last of my three brothers, all of whom were Clemson Graduates and served on the battle fields of Europe and the Pacific during WWII, was honored in a memoriel service in Morganton, NC last Saturday. He was 89 years old and had been bed ridden for the past year. There was no bigger Tiger fan! During his last year he received a hand written letter from Dabo encouraging him to " hang in there". He received a picture of Tyler Shatley from Tyler's Dad along with a picture of his orange and tiger paw decorated van which he drives to the Clemson games. Tyler's Dad and my brother were friends. These items were framed and hung on the wall close to his bed along with other Tiger and WWII items. He always flew the Tiger Paw flag off the balcony of his 5 th floor Retirement Home apartment when the Tigers were playing. Just wanted to acknowledge another example of the good deeds of the fine people associated with Clemson..

who was a special Tiger for sure, as well as a great American!

Can't imagine you having a brother who has lived that long..in that my Dad who died 5 years ago (Tank Commander in WW2) was 87..and am a son and not a brother.

Oh, what is his first name..and/or full name if you should want to tell..as I and others I believe would want to hear more about him (his past with Clemson & in WW2) when you have time in the near future.

Again..I salute your Brother who will be a CLEMSON Man alway..where the Blue Ridge yawns its greatness..where the Tigers play & roar..supreme!

GoTiGERs!

A true American hero and a Clemson man, it gets no better than that! May he rest in peace and God be with you in your loss.
