Why are we constantly disrespected?

Jan 8, 2016, 10:14 AM

I just don't get it. I've never seen a team that is #1 and in the national championship game so disrespected. The way the media is talking Clemson shouldn't even make the trip and just forfeit. It's truly disgusting and sad.

badge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Disrepected is not a verb.

Jan 8, 2016, 10:25 AM

HTH.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Disrespected ain't a verb.

Jan 8, 2016, 10:28 AM

But it will be soon enough.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

And Disrepected is not a word.

Jan 8, 2016, 10:37 AM [ in reply to Disrepected is not a verb. ]

HTH

Re: And Disrepected is not a word.

Jan 8, 2016, 10:38 AM

Ha, I see what y'all did there!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

In this case it is an adjective

Jan 8, 2016, 12:03 PM [ in reply to Disrepected is not a verb. ]

but it can be used as a verb (past tense) as in

That chump Cubelic disrespected our offensive linemen.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-15yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Actually I believe it would be a adverb as it is

Jan 8, 2016, 12:09 PM

modifying the verb 'to be' which is conjugated to 'are' in this sentence. At any rate it has always annoyed the crap of me when people use it as a verb, but as it turns out it is in the OED with an etymology dating back to the 17th century. So I stand corrected... but still annoyed :)

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Actually in this case it's a helping verb.

Jan 8, 2016, 12:38 PM

"Are" sets up/introduces the faux verb, "disrespected".

Think of it like this........."We are disrespecting Alabama"....two verbs, one sentence.

And yes, it's not a real word.

"So this Bama coworker today says to me..........

Jan 8, 2016, 1:02 PM

just kidding, I have a good job....don't have to work with Bama people.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-20yr.jpgringofhonor-obed.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

The only thing that matters,

Jan 8, 2016, 10:33 AM

is that Bama is not disrespecting them. I can guarantee you that.

Re: Why are we constantly disrespected?

Jan 8, 2016, 10:35 AM

A lot of Kings are disrespected, and right now we are King.

Re: Why are we constantly disrespected?

Jan 8, 2016, 10:37 AM

Funny thing is, all I hear from the media is that this is the best team Bama has faced in four championship appearances, and that includes the 2011 LSU team that everyone thought was the best team in the history of football until Bama utterly destroyed them in New Orleans.

Honestly, I don't understand why ya'll feel so disrespected.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I think a lot of posters here have too soft of skin, however

Jan 8, 2016, 10:39 AM

it does seem strange that most articles and ESPN segments are on "Can Clemson beat Alabama?" instead of the other way around.

Re: I think a lot of posters here have too soft of skin, however

Jan 8, 2016, 10:45 AM

I just scrolled down the ESPN NCAAF page and I don't see a single article titled that way. I don't recall seeing a single one since the championship matchup was decided. Can you link to some examples?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Is three enough?

So we're supposed to feel great because of that???

Jan 8, 2016, 10:40 AM [ in reply to Re: Why are we constantly disrespected? ]

Fact is no one is giving us much of a shot of winning. Doesn't mean any of us are upset about it.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: So we're supposed to feel great because of that???

Jan 8, 2016, 11:01 AM

I'm upset about it. We are the only undefeated team in the country and a consensus #1, but yet we're still the underdog. And any time you turn on ESecPN all you hear is how good Alabama's front 7 is.

badge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

A whole bunch of teams are better than the 2011 LSU team.

Jan 8, 2016, 10:40 AM [ in reply to Re: Why are we constantly disrespected? ]

That championship game was a joke.

But your post says everything about why you can't understand.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Not really true but

Jan 8, 2016, 10:40 AM

Dabo has been successful in getting the team to believe it is, so more power to him.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-15yr.jpgringofhonor-jospehg.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

This is true,

Jan 8, 2016, 10:55 AM

He in fact is the one who has used the lack of respect element in order to get the team fired up. This has apparently bled over to this board.

Trust me, you'll have the Tide's FULL attention. So careful what-cha wish for.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Now we really are scared....***

Jan 8, 2016, 11:05 AM

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Well I guess that's it then

Jan 8, 2016, 11:33 AM [ in reply to This is true, ]

We also had the FULL attention of OU and 13 others before them. FULL attention doesn't equal a Bama win.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

No, doesn't guarantee a Bama win,

Jan 8, 2016, 11:52 AM

but is more than Bama gave OSU last year. That one is still stuck in our craw.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Win this and be in contention again next year and the year

Jan 8, 2016, 10:51 AM

after....consistency.

I hate to say it but a bunch of 10-win seasons in the ACC is still suspect. UNC, NCST and even FSU laid eggs this year in their bowls.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Why are we constantly disrespected?

Jan 8, 2016, 11:47 AM

It's because we're a small school in a small state in a conference known more for basketball than football.
