Updated ACC Standings/Thoughts (11/8).....

Nov 8, 2020, 9:13 PM

Breaking it down into tiers....

Tier 1 (Strong chance at ACC championship appearance)

1. Notre Dame 6-0 (7-0)- Games Left: @ BC, @ UNC, Cuse, @ Wake
2. Clemson 6-1 (7-1)- Games Left: @ FSU, Pitt, @ VT

Both would have the tiebreaker over Miami at this juncture.

Tier 2 (Outside chance at ACC championship appearance IF they win out and get help)

3. Miami 5-1 (6-1)- Games Left: @ VT, GT, @ Wake, UNC

They need a lot of help to make ACCCG. But they could hang around the top 10 by winning out...which would help our resume...and be a feather in their cap as well.

Tier 3 (Could spoil a lot of things for the above, but the ACCCG hopes have dimmed.)

4. UNC 5-2 (5-2)- Games Left: Wake, Notre Dame, @ Miami
5. Va. Tech 4-2 (4-2)- Games Left: Miami, @ Pitt, Clemson, UVA (yeah, they lost to Liberty, but watch them give Miami the business this week).
6. Wake 3-2 (4-2)- Games Left: @ UNC, @ Duke, Miami, @ Louisville, Notre Dame (Wake has a 3 game winning streak...and is coming off a BYE...will be an interesting game with UNC this week.)

Tier 4 (No chance at ACCCG, but time to start positioning for the Duke's Mayo Bowl)

7. NCSU 4-3 (4-3)- Games Left: FSU, Liberty, @ Cuse, GT
8. BC 4-3 (5-3)- Games Left: Notre Dame, Louisville, @ UVA
9. Pitt 3-4 (3-4)- Games Left: @ GT, VT, @ Clemson
10. UVA 2-4 (2-4)- Games Left: Louisville, @ FSU, BC, @ VT

Tier 5 (Wait until next year, I guess)

11. GT 2-4 (2-5)- Games Left: Pitt, @ Miami, Duke, @ NCSU
12. FSU 1-5 (2-5)- Games Left: @ NCSU, Clemson, UVA, @ Duke
13. Louisville 1-5 (2-5)- Games Left: @ UVA, Cuse, @ BC, Wake
14. Duke 1-6 (2-6)- Games Left: Wake, @ GT, FSU
15. Cuse 1-6 (1-7)- Games Left: @ Louisville, NCSU, @ Notre Dame

An interesting twist...scenario

Nov 9, 2020, 4:52 AM

There may be an obvious answer to this...but I don't know it.

Let's assume Clemson wins out and finishes 7-1 (Loss vs. ND but win vs. Miami)
Notre Dame loses one game and finishes 7-1 (with tiebreaker over Clemson)
Miami wins out and finishes 7-1 (did not play ND but lost to Clemson)

Which 2 get in ACC Championship?

I believe it's the highest ranked team (playoff poll)maybe or perhaps #2 would be chosen by who has the highest ranked win.

Or Swofford just puts N.Carolina in as a going away present to Clemson

I think it’s still Clemson vs Notre Dame...

There’s usually some sort of tie breaker where you look at the teams record against each other...

Notre Dame would be 1-0
Clemson would be 1-1
Miami would be 0-1

Another one that occasionally comes into play is victory over highest rated team...

In either case, Miami is on the outs.
They need a little more chaos...had we won Saturday, they would have been in better shape.
