An interesting fact about Dabo and Saban

Jan 26, 2019, 8:31 AM

Nick Saban has just one undefeated season in his 23 years of coaching (Toledo, Michigan State, LSU and Alabama). Saban's 2009 Alabama squad finished 14-0. It took Saban 14 years to get his first and only undefeated team up to this point.

Dabo to has an undefeated season on his resume now. Our current National Champion Clemson Tigers at 15-0. Dabo claimed his first undefeated season within his first 11 years, 10 years of being the full-time coach and not the intern.

Dabo truly bloomed where he was planted as he loves to say. Go Tigers! The 2018 undefeated and undisputed National Champions!

If people were as good as their obituary - and products were as good as advertised - this would truly be a wonderful world !!

The best is yet to come...

and there is a lot of time to do it. Saban was 58 when he won his 2nd; Dabo is 49.

interesting the effects the CFP is having on how we look at great seasons

Jan 26, 2019, 8:49 AM

IMO it has changed somewhat with the advent of the CFP.

Back in the day (like 1981) a great season was an undefeated regular season and win your 1 bowl game. No debate. The undisputed champions did that.

Now we have a situation (CFP) in which it's really a season-long playoff and until our boys did it, no champion had been undefeated. 15 games is a LOT to expect any team to go undefeated. Look at the NFL. The Dolphins of '72 still celebrate their perfect season. They only won 17 games total. With no classes to worry about.

I think we should celebrate undefeated regular seasons. Dabo has now done that twice. Not sure how many times Saban has. But the strategy is a little different than it used to be because a champion doesn't have to go undefeated to win it all. Kinda like NCAA basketball.

BTW, our senior class's record is superior to Bama's bc our guys have one more conference championship than Bama's class.

and one more win over the arch-rival.***

Was with you up to the b-ball comparison. Just can’t compare a 64 team playoff to 4 team playoff. You don’t have to be a great team to get into the b-ball tournament, you do have to have a special unbelievable season to get into the playoffs.

What Dabo has done the last 5 years is unreal. A couple of saban nc as well as others were media based because of the BCB setup... same with the 80’s- had Clemson had the press coverage, they may have played for a couple more championships.

That’s why I think it’s so bogus to talk about blue blood programs.
