An important stat

Dec 23, 2015, 12:39 PM

Our defense is currently ranked:

#1 in the nation in the 1st Quarter
#2 in the 2nd Quarter
#9 in the 3rd Quarter
#68 in the 4th Quarter

I've kept up with this stat since near the beginning of the season and watched our 1st and 2nd Quarter numbers improve, our 3rd Quarter numbers stay about the same, and our 4th Quarter numbers drop significantly. IMO that's a sign of fatigue rather than talent or effort. I believe our defense - after these few weeks of rest - will play much better in the 2nd half of our next two games.

Football isn't that simple

Consider this. Perhaps the defensive numbers are getting worse because our turnovers are increasing. The other team is getting more possessions and downs. Naturally the opponents offensive numbers will go up.

I think it has to do with 3 things. Fatigue for sure, playing backups because of blowouts, and our players getting complacent with big leads
