what a great album, and I highly recommend all the background story video on youtube that has been posted here before. Brian Wilson was competing with the Beatles at this point, but instead of studio/recording effects, he did this album with exceptional live musicianship by the Wrecking Crew.

Carol Kaye is one of my heroes...the very epitome of tasteful bass playing. Listening to her will teach you everything you want to know about when NOT to play notes as much as when TO play notes.

a lot going on in this tune. All real people playing real instruments. They don't make 'em like this any more. And like you say, I had no I deer or appreciation of this album way back then, just some good ol Beach Boys tunes...
