Why do dogs always race to the door when the doorbell rings? It's almost never for them.

Sounds like a proud loser.

"it felt like a quiet victory." - it's all they have to live for. imagined moral victories. it's pathetic.

I think this sums it up pretty well. He is discussing being at a game during the first national championship season as a child. All I can say is, he made a conscious choice to be a loser and pull for a losing team even after experiencing a winning team and a winning environment. Some people were just born to be losers. It's their destiny.

"And…I just remember looking around, taking it all in, seeing the orange and the overalls and the Hill and the Tiger doing push-ups, and thinking: Nah.

No.

It’s a no.

The one thing I can remember thinking that day was: “Whatever this is, it’s not me.”

I didn’t know much, and I was eight, but I knew I didn’t care about what I was seeing."

It's like he's saying "I don't like loaded Chili Dogs, I prefer this old shriveled wiener that's been on the rotis-o-mat for 9 hours because it looks lonely. And I will eat it outside, alone, in the rain." - Hemingway

If this is what is going on inside a coot's skull, then that explains perfectly why there is no way to reason with them, i.e. coot logic is illogical.+1 TU

Wise decision. It was a rambling, nauseous mess. He never really states how he became a coot fan, only that he went to a Clemson game and saw how awesome it was - then he decides that's not for him!?!? And that he envies Georgia sometimes. ###. Seems to be drawn to the aura of losing rather than it's source. Severely messed up, even for a coot.

I can halfway understand coot fans who were born into it. A coot dad took their son to a game, passed by some tailgate sex as they walked towards the roach and then watched a chicken in a dress appear from behind a shower curtain. The young son is mesmerized by the pageantry of it all. It happens. I can respect family loyalty.

But to choose to be a coot, with no outside influence....that just means he is a masochist.
