Got tired of buying more and more overpriced wood for this chicken coop and run. Remembered I have a busted up cheap dresser thing in the storage building. Boom. Nesting boxes.
Gonna spray them down with clear coat for protection. And they are removable for cleaning.

Looks like some sort of exhaust or vent pipe you see on sky scrapers and large ships.

Biggest things that I've learnt from my years in the bizness:
1. predators are the biggest enemy. hawks, possums, coons, skunks, weasles, DOGS, and CATS. 2. having a rooster will make the hens lay lightly more eggs. 3. At least a 4:1 hen to rooster ratio. If you have 2 roosters, they will fight and maybe one kills the other. We had 3 for a while. It was funny. 4. For a family of 4, 4 hens will be PLENTY. If you plan on giving eggs away, 4 is still plenty. If you're planning on selling eggs, just stop. It's not worth it. 5. Give them all of your table scraps. They'll eat ANYTHING. Also give them your old crushed egg shells. It helps them have more calcium and produce stronger egg shells. Crush them up though, so they don't get in the habit of cracking their own eggs. 6. The hens will create their own "pecking order" by bullying each other. They're ruthless. It's normal, just let it go. 7. If you want to keep it low maintenance as possible, get some "chicken #######" and screw them in the side of a bucket filled with water. It will keep the water (relatively) clean. If you just put a water dish for them, they will shiit it up immediately. 8. Don't go inside their pen barefoot unless you want bumblefoot. 9. You WILL get snakes. It'll be okay. I hate snakes more than anybody, but I just deal with it. It's part of the ecosystem. 10. Don't wash or refrigerate the eggs, just put them out on the counter. The eggs naturally have an antibiotic coating that protects them. That's why british folks don't refrigerate their eggs... they don't wash them after they come out of the "vent".

These things.
They're 1/4"NPT thread, so get a 1/4"NPT tap and a 7/16" drill bit and put some holes about 1" from the bottom of a 5 gallon bucket. Teflon tape the neeeples and screw them in. Put a dot of bleach in with the water and cover with a lid.

coons are America's biggest problems. I thought he was just being a racist ####### but if you have chickens I can see the dilemma.

They LOVE chicken.
Once they get a taste, they'll keep coming back for more until you get rid of them.
Don't even get me started on what they did to my watermelon patch.
