Alum vs non alum

Jan 7, 2017, 7:56 PM

I usually don't post, but read very often. I enjoy everyone's post and opinion. The alum vs non alum is the dumbest thing I've ever heard. Do you think that 81,000 alums come to every game? Do you think they would? I am not an alum, but I am going to Tampa. I actually chose not to go to Clemson. My degree is better and more respected in my profession than a Clemson degree. It just drives me crazy to hear people say if you aren't an alum you can't be a fan. Sorry for the rant cheers

Where or how did he degrade the University?

Anyway, it matters not where you went. I got my undergrad elsewhere, and only went to Clemson for grad school out of geographic convenience.

I was a fan of Clemson football long before I was even in high school. It has nothing to do with classes I took there.

Likewise, those upper decks, that oculus, the west end zone. . . alumni didn't build those by themselves.

Dabo's not an alum.

Neither is Venables.

Nor were Ford or Howard or Heisman, or millions of others who have supported the players and yelled themselves hoarse, who've contributed to buy the cement, who have bent their backs to raise the lights in Death Valley for over five decades.

Non-alums are the vast majority of Clemson's supporters, so I dunno why there's any schism here.

Most of those ass-hats that believe being an alum is the only way you could be a real fan often haven't even put any serious time in being a Clemson Fan. I first slid down the hill as a 3yr old in 1964 and I'd love nothing more than to come face to face with a new grad telling me he's a bigger fan than I am.....That would be like he telling me he is smarter because he has a college degree, I do love the humor in that!

Jan 8, 2017, 4:07 AM

A few years back when all the conferences were reshuffling, as an alumnus I wanted Clemson to stay on the ACC. I'd rather be associated with the ACC schools/fan bases than those in the SEC or Big 12. Whether it makes my Clemsom degree more prestigious I'm not sure, but I'm an elitist at heart so I'd rather have my school associated with the ACC.

Geez - who cares where your degree is from, as long as you're happy with it. I have a CLEMSON degree, but only 1 of my 3 kids have a degree from CLEMSON - and the other 2 chose elsewhere. Their choice. All are successful, and even though I considered myself successful, I think my 3 kids are more successful than I was. I totally appreciate my degree and am very thankful that I managed to earn it. That's enough for me.

That said - I think most (or all) posts on this board regarding alum/non-alum are in jest. I don't take them seriously at all. Maybe others need to do the same.
