Does ESPN even try with these rankings anymore?

Jan 20, 2016, 11:14 AM

Cornell Powell a 3 star? Dexter Lawrence #6? 66 WR's better than TJ Chase? Zerrick Cooper considered a pocket passer?

gotta falsely inflate some of the SEC ratings

Also seems like everybody's been steadily dropping Feaster

Jan 20, 2016, 11:42 AM [ in reply to Does ESPN even try with these rankings anymore? ]

He's gone from top 10-15 overall to the #5 RB and around 50th overall in at least 2 services.

Still #1 APB and #30 overall in the 247 composite though.

Even higher on Top247 than 247 composite

Jan 21, 2016, 5:20 AM

Top247 actually has him listed as a 5 star and #14 player overall. Their composite rankings is an average of Top247, Rivals, Scout, and ESPN.

With the exception of Cooper as a pocket passer, not awful

Kinda hard to rate Powell that low after his all-star games, but most recruiting websites have him at around the 200th best prospect. So that's not super far off from being a 3-star.

ESPN also has Chalk at 4-stars, which is higher than I've seen anywhere else.

Powell is #36 overall player on Rivals (Link)

Clemson doesn't care about basketball....as evidenced by Brown-L getting 14 years.

They're actually the outlier

Jan 20, 2016, 12:10 PM

24/7 has him as the 300th player overall, but he's 156th in their composite.

Scout has him at 129

I watch this kid play, I watch his highlight film, I hear coaches talk about him, I think about what he did at the Army AA junior day and I just simply don't understand ranking him anything under a high 4*. He will play and contribute as a freshman. We won't be able to keep him off the field, even with all the talent we have at the position.

Re: They're actually the outlier

You mean the Shrine Bowl? He didn't play in the AAA game.

I agree though. Any recruting service that doesn't have him as a 4 star is absolutely irrelevant. The kid is like Percy Harvin out there. Stevie Wonder can even see that.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

No he means Army junior combine last year

Jan 20, 2016, 1:34 PM

Powell was the MVP

Thanks PenthouseTiger, yes I was referring to the AAA Junior day event last year.

And jbrock11, Powell reminds me of a faster Anquan Boldin actually. He's as physically mature a receiver as I've seen coming out of high school in a long time, the most since Rendrick Taylor at Clemson. I think he's gonna be a terror on crossing routes, screens and sweeps, and 3rd downs.

I think 24/7 has been updated

Jan 21, 2016, 5:25 AM [ in reply to They're actually the outlier ]

Powell is now listed as the #224 player overall and #40 WR by Top24/7.

The 24/7 composite has him at #146 overall and #27 WR.

One thing about Powell

Jan 20, 2016, 11:54 AM [ in reply to Does ESPN even try with these rankings anymore? ]

ESPN has him as a 4.6 40, while other services have him around a 4.4 That data point might be why they have him rated so low.
