I don't hate-hate them, but they are not in my top 300-400 favorite bands either.
I mean, like given the choice of Eagles vs Madonna, or Bieber, or 1000 other shitartists, Eagles every time. They wrote and played their own music, which goes a long way down the respectability highway. But I'll never opt to put one of their albums on intentionally.
Just center-of-spectrum for me. I respect their credentials, I know 99% of their portfolio, but I largely leave them alone.
But to answer your question: Gun to head, favorite song would be "The Last Resort", last song on the Hotel California album. Because you don't hear it much, and it's actually a lyrically meaningful non-poppy song.

Kidding, I like a lot of their stuff.
Don Henley is cool though. Have met him numerous times in Dallas through a friend. Even had a funny story happen at a Christmas dinner with him, so no evil words for the man or his bands.

Don't despise em, but now that I think about it... I never bought one of their albums, and at one point in my life I probably owned several hundred. I did have Take It Easy on a 45 record, cool song when it first came out. And I never had any huge desire to go see em in concert, and I've seen everydamnbody.
But yes, I probably know the words to most of their songs... part of the soundtrack of my life. You couldn't avoid their music back in the day, especially on the handful of AM radio rock stations. Just like every other Top 40 hit from the 60s & 70s... I can sing along with all of em.
