ACC baseball tourney/quick update

May 18, 2016, 3:24 PM

I know I wrote yesterday about what needs to happen for Clemson to make it into and be seeded in the ACC Tournament, but it never hurts to recap things:

Thursday marks the start of the final weekend of ACC regular season play, and Clemson plays at Notre Dame. The Tigers are the sixth seed as of now, and would need to stay there to avoid Tuesday's play-in game. On Tuesday, the ACC Tournament begins with a pair of play-in games between the No. 7 and No. 10 seeds as well as the No. 8 and No. 9 seeds.

As it stands today:

Pool A: No. 1 seed Miami, No. 4 seed Virginia, No. 5 seed N.C. State, No. 8 seed GT/No. 9 seed UNC

Pool B: No. 2 seed Louisville, No. 3 seed Florida State, No. 6 seed Clemson, No. 7 seed Wake/No. 10 seed Duke

Here are the overall standings, in order, as of today with weekend opponents:

Miami 19-6 .760 (at Florida State)

Louisville 19-8 .704 (at Wake Forest)

Florida State 15-8 .652 (vs. Miami)

Virginia 16-11 .593 (vs. Virginia Tech)

N.C. State 13-12 .520 (vs. North Carolina)

Clemson 13-14 .481 (at Notre Dame)

Wake Forest 13-14 .481 (vs. Louisville)

Georgia Tech 12-14 .462 (vs. Boston College)

North Carolina 12-15 .444 (at N.C. State)

Duke 12-15 .444 (at Pitt)

Boston College 11-14 .440 (at Georgia Tech)

Notre Dame 11-14 .440 (vs. Clemson)

Pitt 10-16 .385 (vs. Duke)

Virginia Tech 6-21 .222 (at Virginia)

Miami has locked up the Coastal while FSU and Louisville are still battling for the Atlantic title. Heading into this weekend, six of the 10 spots in the tourney are up for grabs. Miami, Louisville, Florida State and Virginia have secured spots in the tournament but are still vying for seeding. A total of three games in the loss column separate the fifth- and 12th-place teams in the current league standings.

I'm assuming the ACC doesn't make up games?

Those two cancelled games against FSU for NC State look like they could be the difference between 5th/6th/7th place.

So basically we need to beat ND .
Wake and GT need to lose this weekend.
If this happens Clemson will be sitting pretty

Have they set the schedule for when seads will play each

other? I'm hoping that as a probable 5 or 6 seed we play the highest seeded team first, then middle, then lowest. Maybe our game 1 pitcher could pitch a little in the championship game, if we get that far. Not sure our fielding will let us.

no, they wait until the pool teams are picked

then, if i remember right, unc and nc state get most of the prime time games while clemson and the rest of the non tobacco road teams play at 11 in the morning or 3 in the afternoon.

i hate the pool play, but at least they could set the times in advance and not worry about attendance. its all about the money as opposed to fairness of everyone.

ALL IN!!
