ACC, League of Champions?

Apr 9, 2019, 9:50 AM

First let me say I am a Clemson fan. I like us. I do not like UNC, Duke, Virginia, NCSU,Louisville, Syracuse, GT, FSU or Miami particularly much. Last night I pulled for Texas Tech until very late in the game when I figured out how much I like Tony Bennett. Still.......

So far in 2019 the ACC has captured the Football and the Basketball Natty. If the ACC wins in Baseball, it'll be the rare trifecta of titles for the league.

Since 1980 ACC teams have won a total of 34 national titles in men's basketball, baseball and football. (17 basketball titles, 12 football titles and 5 baseball titles (won or shared).

Since 1980 SEC teams have won a total of 31 national titles in men's basketball, baseball and football. (6 basketball titles, 14 football titles, and 11 baseball titles (won or shared).

No other league is close to the ACC or SEC in total men's championships in the three major men's sports since 1980.

Since 1980, the ACC has 3 programs (Clemson, Miami and FSU) that have won or shared 3 or more titles in football. The SEC has 3 programs (Bama, LSU, Florida) with 3 or more football titles.
Since 1980, the ACC has 3 programs (UNC, Duke, Louisville) that have won 3 or more titles in basketball. The SEC has 2 programs (Florida and Kentucky) with more than 1 title in basketball.

The SEC titles just mean more which I suppose is the why the ACC gets less respect than the SEC in the major men's sports.

Miami wasn’t in the ACC for their national titles

Miami, Syracuse, and Louisville were not in the ACC when they won their titles, but they are certainly ACC teams now. The SEC has added TAMU and Missouri and got no titles for the addition. That is the way the SEC rolls, I suppose.

Louisville won a title while a member of the ACC. Unless they were a member of the conference when they won the championship, it shouldn’t count. Miami’s and Cuse’s are Big East championships.

Don't let facts get in the way of a good point being made.

In all honesty. I started out pulling for Michigan State as I always do. I just like Tom Izzo.
But last night it was about Conference and in a family matter State. I have family in Virginia.
So I'm glad they won.
