On the other hand, is it really fake news if they apologize and admit the information was false?
Seems like it's not truly fake unless they refuse to accept reality. Sort of like in the case of Trump, and everything he has ever said.

they apologize and admit the mistake after they get caught? Or did they admit the mistake and apologize before anyone realized it was fake?
If the latter, yes you certainly have a point. If the former, what choice did they have?

ABC turned into a Obama pep rally a decade ago. I quit watching nation broadcasting on ABC about that time. I thought it was refreshing to see a news network correct an inaccurate report. I never expected an apology.
