Why do some of you use the term coot?

Oct 30, 2015, 9:39 AM

It makes no sense. Chickens are not coots.

And using the term just makes you seem trashy and uneducated.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Does the term "coot" in this context pre-date the internet

Oct 30, 2015, 9:41 AM

Or was it something that was birthed on The TigerNet or another site?

Oct 30, 2015, 9:53 AM

Only a coot would be complaining about the word coot. Go on somewhere. I'm sure you can find a Coot board that would love you.

Re: Interesting.

Oct 30, 2015, 9:55 AM [ in reply to Re: Interesting. ]

I look at it this way. A logical South Carolina fan that cheers his team in but with a dose of reality is not a coot. A coot is an ignorant fan of the gamecocks that thinks they are Alabama. Interestingly enough these people are the first to call for firings, the first to say they "own" us, the first to bandwagon someone else from the SEC. A true gamecock he is not. It is a moniker that evokes a sense of irrationality and stupidity, disloyalty and treason. I have many gamecock relatives and none of them are coots. They appreciate spurrier and what he did and realize they aren't going bowling and aren't getting whoever they want as the next coach. Coots on the other hand still think they can win the division and hire chip kelly. See the importance of the word now?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Interesting.

Oct 30, 2015, 10:01 AM [ in reply to Re: Interesting. ]

Because they aren't fans they are hicks and 'necks, hillbillies and criminals that pose as SC fans. Like I said one is a fan, one is not. The term coot is used to IDENTIFY those who are not REAL fans. South Carolina gamecock fans and coots. More of the latter.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Interesting.

Oct 30, 2015, 10:08 AM [ in reply to Re: Interesting. ]

Look, a coot is a dumb little water bird that has feathers, and a chicken has feathers. SC team are the chickens, their fans are named after a dumb water bird, the coot. Dumb A$S coots cheer for a chicken team that has a stupid looking chicken that wears a dress for a mascot!!!

Re: Why do some of you use the term coot?

Oct 30, 2015, 10:24 AM [ in reply to Re: Why do some of you use the term coot? ]

Go home coot, coot's are dumb, so no one expects you to get it. ( Behavior )
You’ll find coots eating aquatic plants on almost any body of water. When swimming they look like small ducks (and often dive), but on land they look more chickenlike, walking rather than waddling. An awkward and often clumsy flier, the American Coot requires long running takeoffs to get airborne.

Habitat
Look for American Coots at ponds in city parks, in marshes, reservoirs, along the edges of lakes, and in roadside ditches, sewage treatment ponds, and saltwater inlets or saltmarshes.) They also flock together in that sewage hole they call Billy Brice off Bluff Rd. in Cootlumbia!!!

I demand an apology. It is my preference to use an alternate (and alliterative) term for a bird (and crazy person) as opposed to one that elicits images of savage, unlawful, back road animal fights promoted to entertain the less educated among us. You may use that term if you wish, and I will not cast judgment upon you as you have to so many. Good day.

Oct 30, 2015, 10:21 AM

If you aren't trolling, I'd think it obvious that the term is used as a jab and a pejorative. It's meant to morph their fighting gamecock mascot (with whatever "toughness" it attempts to portray) into a harmless fowl and at the same time call them foolish and bumbling using the secondary definition of coot.

It's not trashy to downplay their mascot. It's the same as calling the Tigers kittens.

Simply a jab at our rivals.

Trashy and Uneducated?

Oct 30, 2015, 10:46 AM

Indeed. If you've ever been educated on duck hunting and the quality and characteristics of various waterfowl, you would know that a coot is considered a trash bird......... therefore......

Now your education is complete.

here:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coot

1) flightless bird, of black color (with dark red eyes)...see a color similarity??

"They are aggressively territorial during the breeding season, but are otherwise often found in sizeable flocks on the shallow vegetated lakes they prefer."

2) In country in-breeding time, they are aggressive, territorial, and group in flocks.

At least some coots have difficulty feeding a large family of hatchlings on the tiny shrimp and insects that they collect. So after about three days they start attacking their own chicks when they beg for food. After a short while, these attacks concentrate on the weaker chicks, who eventually give up begging and die.

3) They don't make a lot of money (working mostly at McDonalds), so they have difficulty feeding their families. After a while, their in-bred families start attacking each other. They concentrate on attacking weak chicks (see the SUV/fence girl last year before a game).

Does it make sense to you or seem any less uneducated that Tigers are called "taters" by USuC fans? At least a coot is an actual bird. USuC fans are not even in the correct kingdom with their nickname.

I actually like "Capon" better anyways. It's far more accurate:

ca·pon
?k??pän,?k??p?n/
noun
noun: capon; plural noun: capons

a castrated domestic #### fattened for eating

You'll probably never lose the label of coot on this board. You have forever been branded... good luck with that, coot.
