Does Pitt become a football power now?

Jul 24, 2012, 5:28 PM

Reduced recruiting competition in their home state should improve the program.

Dear me, U of Pittsburgh, winner of NINI national championships in football and one of the top 20 all time winners in football. . .I think those are better qualms as a football power than some "other" programs

Sorry, that is NINE,

No, it will benefit other programs more than Pitt

Jul 24, 2012, 6:03 PM

most likely other Big Ten schools and possibly Maryland/UVA/VT.

A lot of good players would rather stay close to home

Jul 24, 2012, 6:30 PM

And compete on a high level.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I would disagree

Jul 24, 2012, 7:10 PM [ in reply to No, it will benefit other programs more than Pitt ]

A lot of PA kids like to stay closer to home and even though Penn St had a clear edge in recruiting, it seemed a lot of local boys had it down between Pitt and Penn St before choosing the Nittany Lions.

I wouldn't argue that Big 10 schools will also benefit, esp Ohio St, but I do think Pitt will end up being the biggest winner of them all.

Doubt it. I think if you look at their past 5 recruiting classes, it looks like UVA,Rutgers, Maryland, Ohio State and ND are some of the top competitors for talent.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

you wouldn't know a power football program

Jul 24, 2012, 6:10 PM

if it bit you in the @ss coot. oh that's right, power football programs beat you year in year out, so maybe you do have an idea.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Urban Meyer and Ohio State will be the big winner...

Jul 24, 2012, 6:27 PM

but Pitt should improve their recruiting as well.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

They will definitely benefit from it ,....whether or

Jul 24, 2012, 6:40 PM

not they become a " power" still remains to be seen, but this will help them for at least the next four years with instate recruits , at the least, imho ..
