A Brief History of Clemson dropping in the polls with a win!

Sep 29, 2019, 9:23 PM

Even though many are shaking their heads today, take a moment to consider:

2015: Dropped in Poll-5 (#11 to #12) & Poll-8 (#5 to #6) while still undefeated
2016: Dropped in Poll-3 (#2 to #5) while still undefeated.
2017: Never dropped while winning. Only dropped with the 2 losses that year
2018: Dropped in Poll-4 (#2 to #3)& Poll-6 (#3 to #4) while being undefeated. Won Natty
2019: Dropped in Poll-6 from #1 to #2. Take note that 4 times in previous 4 seasons we dropped spots in the poll as early or even earlier in the season than this year for looking like September Clemson.

Conclusions:
1. Clemson has 100% chance to make the National Championship game BECAUSE we dropped a spot while being undefeated.
2. Clemson has 67% chance of winning the Natty.
3. Dropping in the polls or not has no effect on ACCCG. Clemson has 100% chance to win regardless.

Really no other to read the numbers on this one

I see a pattern. I wonder if, over the same time period, Alabama ever dropped with a win. I somehow doubt it.

If there’s one thing about pollsters it’s they are lazy.

Ok, so I checked. The last time Alabama dropped out of the top spot after a win was October 25,2009 from #1 to #2 with a 12-10 win over Tennessee. Yet they have been ranked #1 about 3 times as much as we have over that same time period.

Ok, so to expound a little further:

This was the 75th time that AP#1 dropped despite a win in the 84th season of the Poll.

Here's the list of teams who have dropped from #1 despite winning more than once:

1. Oklahoma - 12
2. Notre Dame - 7
3. Ohio State - 5
4. Alabama - 4
T4. Miami - 4
6. USC - 3
T6. Nebraska - 3
T6 Michigan - 3
T6. Michigan St - 3
T6. Florida - 3
T6. Penn St - 3
T6. Tennessee - 3
T6. Ole Miss - 39. Washington - 3 (dropped 2)
T9. Army - 3 (dropped 2)
11. Auburn 2 (dropped 1)
T11. Texas A&M - 2 (never dropped)
T11. LSU - 2 (never dropped)

See the pattern - SEC & Big10 bias is not a new thing. It has been going on for the entire history of the modern era of College Football

14. Florida St - 2
T14. Maryland - 2
T14. Army - 2

Don't feel too bad for most of those teams, though. The usual suspects have more frequently ASCENDED to AP#1 despite the previous AP#1 winning more times than they were dropped as a winning #1:
1. Notre Dame - 10 (dropped 7)
2. Ohio State - 6 (dropped 5)
3. Alabama - 5 (dropped 4)
T3. Michigan St - 5 (Dropped 3)
5. Florida - 4 (dropped 3)
T5. Nebraska - 4 (dropped 3)
T5. Texas - 4 (dropped 1)
T5. Michigan -4 (dropped 3)

Looks like JHop cut & pasted your closing arguement in the middle of first section?
