4th down run & penalty

Am I the only one who thought it was insane that on a 4th down play a runner with the ball is hit out of bounds, a penalty is called and they award the defense a 1st down. How is that even possible. Is the call is correct, the rule is insane!

It was a dead ball penalty after the turnover on downs. It was their ball.

I understand the call they made, but that is insane. By that standard you can take a cheap shot at the end of every 4th down play and pay a very small price. Insane.

I must be the only person to see negatives. I am happy for Clemson but what in the hell was the series of downs about after the BM fumble. The p layers looked as though they had never played. Two penalties and an interception. You need one first down and we try to kill the clock. Is this Chad or Dabo. Clemson won in spite of thenselves.
