Kind of misleading since OU averages 8.3 yards per play and Bama and Georgia averages over 6. Clemson averages 5. So while have lower 3ed down conversation rate there aren't in 3rd down as often.

3rd down conversion percentage is anything but misleading. OU is a big play team.... it makes since that they would be low because it's boom or bust.

To your point.... the fact that Clemson averages less yards per play and you suggest that helps their percentage because it puts them in 3td down situations more often is backwards.

Assuming you are right the fact that Clemson would be in more 3rd down situations AND HAVE A HIGHER CONVERSION PERCENTAGE would actually be more impressive...... not less so

The other side of the ball shows a similar outcome. Clemson is better on defense allowing a much lower 3rd down conversion rate than either of the other 3 playoff teams.
Clemson
Alabama
Georgia
Oklahoma

Oklahoma is 10% worse so are much worse. Alabama and Georgia in the 4-5% range worse.
