You could throw it through the back of the endzone. But this team clearly doesn't practice the 2 minute drill enough.

They picked up 20 or so yards so they didn't really know they'd be snapping the ball from withing the 5 before the play

You spike it with one timeout because you still have the option to run it with Storm Johnson. You have 4 downs and he used the spike as a cheap timeout. Worked out pretty well, it keeps the defense on it's toes and guessing.
