2019 LB recruiting

Love the pick-up today.... but now we are at 5 LBs for 2019. The Salski red shirt makes sense now. Next year Simmons, Lamar, Smith and Skalski will all be needed getting two or three of those 5 guys ready to play.

What really concerns me is one OL commit. We really need 3 or 4 more. Webb would be a huge steal from AL.

Why do we "need" 3-4 more OLs for 2019?

We've only got two OL that are Seniors this year (not counting one walk-on that was given a scholarship). Do you believe that we've got Juniors that are talented enough to leave early? Expecting transfers?

Mainly because we'll lose 4-5 O-Line heading into 2020. If we don't recruit well in the 2019 class and allow those guys to mature into valuable players for a year, we'll have to count on 2020 being an O-Line class of 7-8 and count on freshman offensive lineman that season

We've already got 1 committed. I asked why we need 3-4 more (meaning 4 to 5 total) when we're only going to lose 2 after this year.

In my mind, we need a big class in 2020 to cover the 5 Juniors we currently have on scholarship. Taking a few extra early in 2019 might be preferable, but we should be okay taking less.

I read somewhere they were going to convert one committ from DL to OL.

OL typically needs a couple of years in the program before they are ready to contribute so you recruit in 2019 to fill holes in 2020 and beyond. Not to mention the OL is the hardest position to evaluate so the hit rate is lower than for other positions

It takes 2-3 years for most OL to be ready to contribute so this class is more going to be filling spots for 2020 where we’re going to need contributions from these 2019 recruits.
