1958 Clemson - Boston College game clip

Clemson scores and goes for 2 with a pass. Pretty cool view of the old scoreboard and IPTAY on both end zones.

My dad played in that game.

He earned a game ball from that win, which we still have today.

That's cool about your Dad.. during that time a lot of the players played both offense and defense so they had to be in great physical condition. I don't know if most players today could play both sides of the ball.

Back then, NCAA rules allowed only one substitution per play. If a player was pulled from the game, he couldn't be reinserted until the next quarter, which effectively required players to play both offense & defense. It wasn't until 1965 that the rules were changed to allow unlimited substitutions. Indeed, playing in those days required great physical stamina & mental toughness. But on the other hand, the players weren't nearly as big or as fast as they are today, & there wasn't anything near the degree of athleticism & talent development that we have now.

Thanks for these old films....

Ran across a Tennessee game in Knoxville and a Big Thursday game about 1952-1955. Have searched since then and can not find now. The Tennessee newsreel was entire game and the game in Columbia was a good number of highlights.

Those old films are fun to watch. I would love to find a copy of the Last Big Thursday game.
