Probably the best reason to redshirt him...

Apr 7, 2014, 9:15 PM

Let him beef up before he has to take these bigboy hits in a real game from guys wanting to put him out for the season!

This may all just play out without the coaches having to 'decide'.

I still wanna see him play & hate to miss seeing him in action Saturday!!! Dangit!
Oh well, Godspeed on your recovery Watson& can't wait to see you ballout!

it is definitely a different game but I think it is too

early to make that call yet. Hang in there DW!

He does redshirt, but this kid is likely on the 3 year plan, and if so redshirting him is pointless

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

It would be foolish

Apr 7, 2014, 10:59 PM

to base whether to redshirt Watson or not on the possibility he may or may not go pro in three years.

Re: It would be foolish

Apr 8, 2014, 11:27 AM

I think it is foolish to red shirt any player who is planning on being in college for 4 years or less. Steward is a good example of that, he did not want to red shirt because he had no plans to be at Clemson a fifth year.

There's a long road between now and when he's elligible***

Is Nick Schuessler eligible this year?

Apr 7, 2014, 10:31 PM

Not really hearing much about him in the QB race. Either he's not eligible or not talented enough.

doing well per dabo but behind the other 3

I agree, there are 3 VERY talented guys in there ahead of

That would undermine the whole system Dabo's built

Apr 8, 2014, 12:32 AM

You get a scholly for 4 yrs & that should be the plan, unless you're just a freak of nature...
Still, smarter to have the free degree to fall on if you blow it all out in the pros & get sidelined, imo.

I know it's not serious in the spring but in the fall, 3

Apr 8, 2014, 6:15 AM

weeks is a different story. It is very important to have quality depth at such an important postion, remember UVA a couple years back (wasn't it UVA that had to play a LB at QB?).

Maryland was playing an LB at QB, lost 4 QBs to injury...

This Will Question Going "Live" on QB's in Spring

Apr 8, 2014, 7:47 AM

IDK is DW was hurt in a live scrimmage where the QB was open to hits but it sounds like it....

I confess I wasn't thrilled when I heard this strategy and I am less thrilled now. Fall is a different story...

I am just glad it was a full break

if this were the fall, & we needed him to play then it could

Apr 8, 2014, 8:27 AM

be possible that this injury is not enough to keep him out 3 weeks. In other words, they might be saying "3 weeks" because it is the spring & not worth the risk they'd be willing to take if this were during a season in which we needed him to play. After all, he did play the rest of scrimmage & they don't know when the fracture occurred.

pocket or gets "happy feet" under pressure. Knowing they are not going to get hit, QBs are more likely to stand in there and look like a stud. I don't want to wait until we get to Athens to find out my QB is like a deer in the headlights.

Apr 8, 2014, 11:48 AM

The biggest question here is this. Do you want a team that is ready for what ever comes, or do you want a team that plays like a deer in the head lights. You can't have both playing touch FB in practice.

Withthe overall inexperience

Apr 8, 2014, 8:47 AM [ in reply to This Will Question Going "Live" on QB's in Spring ]

in the QB corps I don't have a problem with them going "live" some in practice, and even with this seemingly minor injury Watson will probably be better for the experience with the live contact at this level. He got the opportunity to go live against one of, if not the best front 7 he'll see all year.

"potentially leaving" - where do you get that paranoid stuff

Apr 8, 2014, 3:37 PM

Kelly is all in and will probably be in dual Qb system with Cole. And since Morris wants all-out running attack so badly, he may get more playing time?
