ESPN: Clemson jumps Georgia, Ohio State in Playoff chances |
We are four full weeks into the season and some
College Football Playoff contenders are starting to emerge.
ESPN’s Playoff Predictor bumped Clemson’s chances up 12 percent after grabbing a road win at Georgia Tech Saturday, jumping Ohio State and Georgia to the second-best odds (62) behind Alabama (81). In terms of movement this week, Notre Dame’s path to the CFP received the biggest boost after pulling away at Wake Forest - not currently in the projected top-four but given a 21 percent improved chance after week four (35 percent). They host a top-10 matchup with Stanford next week (7:30 p.m. NBC). Outside of the metrics, ESPN’s Playoff pick panel favors Clemson as a projected No. 2 seed meeting Georgia or Ohio State. Mark Schlabach stuck with a Alabama-Clemson semifinal rematch in the 1-4 game. ESPN FPI projects Clemson with the second-best final record with a 31.9 percent chance of winning out (second-best) and a 69.7 percent chance of winning a conference (best odds in CFB). They see Clemson's toughest remaining regular-season game being at Boston College on Nov. 10 (81.8 win projection).
