XT or ZW ...
For the good of Clemson athletics ... if you could have one or the other, but not both, which would you choose?
Which would consider a better get for Clemson athletics?

program what Spiller did for the football program. XT would be nice, but we can still win a national championship without him.

XT all the way.
Williamson would be great, but he'd be here for one year. We'd probably have moderate success with him, probably make the tournament but with the Sweet 16 most likely as the ceiling. He wouldn't necessarily result in better players consistently coming to Clemson, not too different than Ben Simmons & LSU or Durant & Texas. If we want to become a good basketball program, we need to try to go the UVA route. Good coaching, and recruiting better players in increments. Williamson would be great, but it'd be a flash in the pan.
XT, on the other hand, would help continue the dominant DL that Clemson's becoming to be known for. He'd stay for three years, and also go a long way towards in-state recruiting. Almost all of our top players recently have come from out-of-state, while South Carolina has been putting all of their focus on local talent. Landing a blockbuster in-state recruit would be great for our local recruiting and hurt the Gamecocks' recruiting message that Clemson doesn't care about local players.

than the football team needs XT.
Even if ZW only stayed one year, we'd be light years ahead because of it.
Clemson recruiting success has to begin somewhere and having this legacy guy right under our noses appears to be our best shot in years (if not ever) to jump start our rcruiting.

We won't regret not landing XT, because we will get several players of near equal talent at this position. We don't have the ability to land another 5 star player in basketball.

Oof, let's not get ahead of ourselves here. XT is a Top 3 overall player in the nation for a reason. Let's not let a championship make our heads get so big as to believe that missing on a player like XT isn't a big deal because "we'll just get another guy like him". That's not how it works for anyone but Alabama.

I'm not saying they're not. However Xavier Thomas is composite ranked #2 overall in the nation for a reason. He's a special, special player. It should also be noted that he & Mascoll play different positions.

Xavier Thomas would be here 3 years. Zion Williamson is a one and done guy. He'd basically be our version of Ben Simmons. He'd change the culture for a season, but he'd basically be a bandaid on a severed leg. Cover up some problems for a season, we make a run and when he leaves we probably go back to an average team at best.
Either way, I'd love them both. But I'll take XT all day.

I look at this way. The football program has a much greater chance of winning the playoffs than the basketball team has of making the final four and winning it all. Xavier Thomas would be the choice. We have to overcome family Carolina roots.
