Barnes had a .607 winning percentage and actually won games in the NCAA tourney. Not to mention, Barnes made the freaking NIT with the Slab Five (and Greg Buckner) his first year. Personally, not a fan of Barnes, but I'd argue he was the best basketball coach Clemson has had.

I agree. Barnes was the best we've had here.

Purnell and Brownell are about the same. They both had/have their limitations. Purnell could recruit but his gimmick syle of full court pressure tended to leave our guys legs lifeless at the end of the year and thats why we would lose in the tourneys. Brownell has a more straight forward approach to coaching like a Tony Bennett but Brownell has had a tougher time recruiting difference maker type players. And i think you gotta factor in the change in conference teams for the Brownell era. Playing Syracuse, Pitt, and Louisville every year didn't make it easier to get to the tourney.
If you honestly assess Brownell's results he has done alot with lesser talent. If he ever gets over the hump in recruiting he will get us to that place we all want to be. HAd he somehow pulled off the Zion thing that would have kickstarted our recruiting like no other. Solid coach, mediocre recruiter (to this point)

Oliver could not get a consistent offense going. And his missing on the non-recruitment of Seth was tragic. And he left; we did not let him go.

Not saying our OOC opponents were easy, but this was the best team we faced before the ACC season started.

Barnes was the most prolific coach here. You had a sense you could win at any time. But don't leave out Foster. he at least got us farther than any coach has in history . .to the final 8.

I think he's the best program builder we've had.

He had a great track record of taking struggling programs and making them competitive. He pulled us out of the depths of the Larry Shyatt era and showed consistent improvement. He made us an NCAA Tournament team, which was great. I appreciate what he did while he was at Clemson.
I don't appreciate how he left. Very unprofessional.

Good grief, this is getting old. If you're going to keep talking about this, why not Bill Foster? Only Clemson coach to get to Elite 8.

The style of play that OP ran could only take you so far. When it worked it was fun to watch but it seemed to fail in the big games
