Why is Danny Pearman on the CU Staff!?

Jul 20, 2016, 8:51 PM

I cannot believe that Danny Pearman is still on the Clemson football coaching staff. He played at Clemson on or around the time of the 1981 National Championship. Good player, became an assistant, and worked his way into coaching. I'm sure that he is a fine fellow, BUT--his performance over the past several years as a coach has been abysmal. He is the tight ends coach, and with few exceptions, Clemson tight ends have NOT been good blockers at all. He is the lead recruiter in the Charlotte, NC area, and again, until recently when Clemson has become a top team, his recruiting results were not impressive. And lastly, for some time his name has been associated with Special Teams who have been BAD for years. Anyone--heck everyone--on this board could see that. And now, he has the nerve to tell us that some of our results are OK, even good in some areas. It is clear that he has no idea how to make Best the Standard for Clemson's Special Teams. Dabo needs to give Danny something else to do ( spelled not coaching! ) and get us a full time Special Teams Coach.

I hate to have to say this, but the elephant is still in the room and no one seems to be noticing it or getting serious about dealing with it! Dabo has fixed the offense, fixed the defense, fixed the QB situation--all with coaching changes/additions--and now it is time to fix Special Teams.

He has produced an all ACC tight end 4 out of the last 5 years, one Mackey award winner, and another finalist. He's probably the most accomplished position coach on our team. You dopes are hilarious.

He and Dabo are very close! Danny showed Dabo the ropes when he was an asst. @ Bama and Dabo was a brand new Graduate Assistant.

Coaches that don't perform don't last long under CDS. Ask Kevin steele. Pearman must be doing something right. And yes, he was a player in 81.

Our any of our current coaches for that matter?
Under Coach Streeter Watson has only gone from Great to Greatest- that's only a 2 step improvement. And why is Venables always having to reload. Why can't he convinse NFL talent to stay another year? Same question to Coach Hobby. Get rid of them all I say?

We've put 3 TE's in the NFL while he's coached the position , and Leggett will be drafted in the 2nd or 3rd round next summer .
Isn't that good enough ?

Danny is not THE special teams coach

Jul 20, 2016, 11:54 PM

Most common mistake among our fans is that Pearman is the 1 and only ST coach. Wrong. Different teams of coaches split the duties. If im not mistaken Danny deals mostly with FG and punt teams.

I know last year during bowl season it was mentioned the BV & another coach handled the KO coverage unit. Wanna get rid of him ignorant?

MOST college teams do NOT have a dedicated ST coach. Teams are only allowed 9 asst coaches. We have a coach dedicated to qb, rb, wr, te, ol, dt, de, lb, and db. In the future i coukd see Brooks retiring and Hobby taking over the entire DL. Maybe but not sure if Dabo would hire a ST guy then or not.

I dont think its a matter of which coach or team of coaches handles the different parts. For the mlst part i think its a matter of players executing.....except for that blessed onside kick by BAMA.....ugh!!! Great call little Nicky.

You may could make the arguement that we need to utilize more starters. But you have to realize on the KO coverage that allowed at least 2 TDs had what we thought were some of our best defenders on it (looking at you Green & Kearse).

Dabo said they had independent review from other coaches outside the program watch film and they got positive feedback, but they spotted things to work on too. That's called getting better.

They dont think it's a non issue. If they did THEN we have a problem.

I'm sure having a Mackey winner in the past 5 years and

pre-season Mackey hopeful in addition to being loaded at the TE position means he is a bad coach. And it is unfair to place all the Special Teams blame on Pearman and not any on Dabo.

From the interview, it seems many of the coaches have a role with special teams. It also sounded like the additional depth we might have this year at a number of positions could be a large part of any potential improvement.

Why is Danny Pearman on the CU Staff!? He and Dabo go

Jul 21, 2016, 11:48 PM

way back. Back to Bama days, and Dabo is a loyal guy.I havent been overly impressed with Pearman,or his results . But one thing Ive learned is Dabo knows ### he is doing, so to second guess Dabo would prob not be smart on this one .DP most likely is Dabos best friend on the staff ,but Im sure DP earns his keep.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Because Dabo wants him there. End of discussion**********
