As I understand it, Clemson made him an offer but the two side simply couldn't come to terms on the salary. Clemson offered something in the $2.5 million range and Patterson wanted something in the $3.5 million range. At the time, TCU was paying Patterson less than $2 million annually.

Neither Dabo nor Coach P used the word, except in response to DJ Greenlee's use of the word. Coach P was trying to educate DJ not to use the word at all; by using the word in his correction he offended DJ instead of educating him.

IDK why this is so hard to understand: Coach P fell into the double standard trap, and Dabo had to teach him what he had done "wrong". Even though ethically and morally he was in the right, the offended players will never see it that way.

Sounds like Coach Patterson was attempting to use the N word as a way of relating to his players but couldn't get it right. There is no "higher standard" being sought here. He is neither trying to eradicate the use of the term nor capable of using it in an "acceptable" way.

I don't see the similarities between this and Coach Pearman.
