Arkansas will never be anything more than a 8-4 team

Dec 7, 2017, 11:16 AM

They will always play 5th fiddle to Bama, Aubie, LSU, and Texas AM. Why are we wasting Clemson board space on a mediocre wasteland? Make like BV and focus on OUR National Championship team and let the hawgs worry about THEIR plans for the holidays.

Toto, I don't think we're in the Southwest Conference anymore....

Just like people said SMU would always suck then CM gives them their first winning season in 5 years.

I'm not sure you can say that will Chad as the coach.. Typically I'd agree based on their history and prior coaches. However, we've seen they have had 2 10+ win seasons and I think CM is more than capable of attaining and sustaining that if he stays there.

I disagree. I fully expect Chad to bring them up to ten win seasons. Now actually winning the conference will be difficult in that division but it is doable. I am pulling for chad hard. I hope he makes us proud.

As far as BV goes. He's not going anywhere

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

They've had 3 10+ win seasons since joining the SEC in 91

Dec 7, 2017, 11:27 AM

If Ford couldn't do it, there's no way in hell Chad can.....

I think Chad will improve the offensive side for the Hoggies. But their defense has been atrocious in recent years. They need to hire someone who can change that.

you mean kinda the way they talked about clemson 10 years ago.

All we had to do was best FSU... they have 4 teams

I disagree. I think Chad Morris is going to.....

Dec 7, 2017, 11:25 AM

turn them around and put together a magical season within 5 years. Then he will dump them and get a better job and they will go back to sucking for a couple more decades.

Re: I disagree. I think Chad Morris is going to.....

Dec 7, 2017, 11:27 AM

Not sure 'dumping' is the correct word. Some coaches leave in a classless and unthankful way. He wouldn't do that.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

True. He will upgrade in a classy way.*****

100% agree. He’s an opportunist and will bolt af the chance.

disagree

Dec 7, 2017, 11:28 AM

give chad morris a quality DC, a solid Oline and his QB, and he will have a shot at 10 wins

badge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Give me a quality DC solid OL and i could win there as well

Dec 7, 2017, 11:31 AM

The problem is getting that to Arkansas...

It's been done before, why wouldn't it be possible again?

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

you’re not right in anyway shape or form. They have a strong tradition.

Dec 7, 2017, 11:32 AM

Been a long time but had one bc. They were knocking on the door with letting. The sec is a lot weaker than it used to be. I don’t expect them to beat auburn or Alabama soon. But they can beat the sec east teams they play, Miss st, ole miss, LSU, a and m, and their non conference. It won’t be immediate but he also has proximity to Oklahoma Missouri Texas and Louisiana as well as Memphis. He could spread the recruiting boundaries. I could see him getting to winning season next year and 9-10 wins in 3-4

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Only 3 10+ wins since joining the SEC in 91

Dec 7, 2017, 11:36 AM

If Ford couldn't do it, no way in hell Chad will....

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Where's the logic here?

Dec 7, 2017, 11:43 AM

Since Danny Ford couldn't do it Morris can't? Despite the fact that they're 2 very different types of coaches separated by 25 years? You're assuming a lot. Most people assumed Clemson could never go to 3 straight playoffs, or make it this year with KB, or that Dabo would be anywhere near as good as he's been. Give Chad a chance at a P5 school before you start acting like you know everything.

Bobby Petrino did it and Ford didn't, so you're saying Petrino > Ford?

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Chad will change the culture. Arky always was stuck on

Dec 7, 2017, 1:22 PM [ in reply to Only 3 10+ wins since joining the SEC in 91 ]

being a predominately running team. He will almost certainly change that approach. I suspect his defenses will lag behind offenses for a couple of years, but if he makes the right hire on that side of the ball, I can see him competing sooner rather than later.

Re: Arkansas will never be anything more than a 8-4 team

Dec 7, 2017, 12:06 PM

It's all about recruiting.

I doubt they can recruit to the level they'd need to get over the hump in that division.

They could turn into a team that regularly finishes 8-4 and occassionally upsets one of the top teams.

Arkansas looks like a springboard type job to me.

I see Morris developing a game breaking offense but robbing the defense of athletes to do it.
This is what Bowden tried to do/did at Clemson.

Not sure why people lump A&M in with the other three. Sure they have a lot of potential, but Arkansas owns them historically. They are similar programs.

Re: Arkansas will never be anything more than a 8-4 team

Dec 7, 2017, 12:15 PM [ in reply to Re: Arkansas will never be anything more than a 8-4 team ]

Arkansas isn't too terribly far from Dallas (little less than 300 miles), OK City (200 miles), and Missouri.

That, combined with the fact that the owner of the Cowboys is an alum/former player and as assets at his discretion they could certainly recruit well enough to be in contention for at least top 3-4 in the entire SEC.

Not saying it will happen, however, it could as it has before.
