Went to see Amer. Sniper in Anderson

Feb 10, 2015, 11:02 PM

Met Tajh Boyd in the lobby. Asked him if he felt good about Detroit try out, and
he said he is looking to ink a contract in the next day or so.

He looked fit and ready to go. He is a great Tiger representative.

After we finished our conversation I found out the teenagers running the concessions counter
had no idea who he was. The young man who gave me my popcorn said
"when you leave I'm gonna google him"

I asked him if he had been living under a rock somewhere?

Pretty cool encounter all in all.

He was in Charleston a week or two ago for the MUSC

Funny thing about it though, when it was over no one said a word as they walked out of the theater.

It was as eerie a feeling as when I went and visited the Viet Nam memorial.

Kinda of a reverence thing in the crowd.

I heard others say it happened when they saw the movie too.

Really good movie, worth the price. We saw it the Saturday it was first released, packed theater, and like you experienced hardly a sound was made by anyone when we all walked out.

I streamed it online the other day and thought it was a solid movie but don't really understand all the hype.

As far as Navy SEALS/recon military movies go, I thought Lone Survivor was a good bit better.

Having Clint Eastwood and Bradley Cooper helps, I suppose.

Is it safe to say you didn't read either book?

I couldn't disagree more about those 2 movies. It hour American Sniper was the best movie I've seen in years. I understand there are some parts that are not easy to interpret without the backstory, but there is no comparison between these 2 movies for me.

I have only walked out of three movies where the

audience was silent leaving -

"Schindler's List",
"The Passion of the Christ", and
"American Sniper".

All three of those movies were cinematically brilliant! And, each has impacted me and left me in complete appreciation of the hero of the movie. That is the true sign of a great movie.

Of course, Jesus Christ had already impacted my life before I saw any of those movies.

The movie was great. I had the same experience. When the movie ended no one got up at first and no one spoke. Then people slowly got up and left in complete silence. I didn't hear one word for anyone until I reached the lobby.

Had the same thing happen. No one said a word while they were walking out. Saw a few tears being shed as well.

Same thing happened awhile back when we were walking out of "Saving Private Ryan". And ditto on the comment about the Viet Nam Veterans Memorial. I had the same experience while visiting the smaller travelling version when it came through our town a couple of years ago.

My showing was the same way. One thing that enhanced that effect for this particular movie though is that the end credits are completely silent. There's no music, voiceover or other sounds at all. I think that goes a long way towards keeping people quiet after. No one wants to be the only voice you can hear over the otherwise silent theater. That said, I was feeling pretty solemn when the credits rolled myself.

I just watched it..

Feb 11, 2015, 1:21 PM [ in reply to Well, how was the movie............ ]

It is an American war movie that depicts an american war hero.
That said, i really was engaged through the whole film.. i thought they did a good job of showing both sides of war, the ugly return home for a lot of vets and the hardships on the soldiers and their families. It was action packed, but not in a way that feels good to me when you remember this a depiction, albeit Hollywood's, of real experiences.
Def think it was worth the time.
