Wish we had a little more time to break in the new

Jan 24, 2017, 2:03 PM

Qb before starting with Auburn, Louisville and VT within the first 5 games. Oh well those teams eye's will be big when they see THE 2016 National Champs take the field......

Re: Wish we had a little more time to break in the new

Jan 24, 2017, 2:12 PM

Looks decent.

Auburn will prob'ly be pretty good. Louisville's D is set to take a truly monster step back so aside from Lamar Jackson - who really tanked down the stretch as teams got a book on him and figured out what he couldn't do - the Cards are likely to drop off, prob'ly more than a little. Petrino has always bailed on his prior teams before Year 4...and they usually crash and burn in his wake because he's a terrible recruiter, especially defensively.

VT, like us, will be breaking in a new QB, and they aren't likely to have the targets on the perimeter they had last year, especially with Ford and Hodges gone. Still would expect Fuente to have them coached up well and VT in Blacksburg is never an easy win.

Auburn, VT, FSU are the games we will certainly be challenged in. For some reason my Spider Sense is telling me to be leery of Syracuse on a Friday night as well. Dino Babers can flat-out coach and they're finally getting some talent in there; expect them to be a vastly tougher out in Year 2 than they were Babers' first year.

I have no doubt South Carolina will be waiting for us in Billy Brice huffing and chuffing and chirping as ever, but we all know how that goes.

will not be an easy game.

Re: New Story: 2017 Clemson football schedule released

Jan 24, 2017, 2:05 PM

Auburn and UL back to back early in the season is a load otherwise it is about as good a schedule as you can get. I love the placement of the open date and that FSU will be late in the season.
You have Auburn, UL and VT in the first 5 games of the season so it will be a battle tested group by the open date. Reminds me of the 2011 schedule.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Looking at this in Quarters

Jan 24, 2017, 2:08 PM

1st and last quarters seem to be the most difficult.

If we can survive the 1st quarter with Auburn and Louisville

then we have a chance at a good season.

FSU has a crazy tough schedule...looks similar to our schedule last season. If they can survive they most def. will be in the CFP

Re: And now the race begins for the at elusive Oct 21st Wedding

Jan 24, 2017, 3:11 PM

Whew, I got lucky! My niece's wedding was already planned for that day.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I got married 10-21-95. It was a Tommy West year, so

Jan 24, 2017, 3:27 PM [ in reply to And now the race begins for the at elusive Oct 21st Wedding ]

It was OK to miss a game (Maryland - and we won 17-0) :)

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I Like Having Louisville Early

Jan 24, 2017, 2:32 PM

If there is a chance we lose this year it will be to them and FSU. We'll have a better chance of making the playoff with a loss if it's earlier in the season.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Auburn will be better than Louisville

Jan 24, 2017, 2:43 PM

The cards will have Jackson at QB, but they proved down the stretch last year what they really were...and they will not be as talented next year. The most talented player on their team may be the pissed off fans in the stands with a memory of their loss in Death Valley last year.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Looks ok , but please no noon game with Auburn***

I bet...

Jan 24, 2017, 2:45 PM

The Auburn game will be a night game. Usually they have a great slate of games for week one and then a HUGE drop-off for week 2. This has ESPN 8:00pm written all over it. Defending champs at night and ESPN would love to show Auburn knocking us off on National TV...possible gameday.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Wish we had a real opener

Jan 24, 2017, 2:37 PM

instead of a cupcake like Kent St. We won't get any press that weekend - unless we fail to score over 40 or otherwise struggle. Would love to see us schedule another strong non-conference game. I know we have that in Auburn the next weekend, but would be nice to up the ante on the strength of schedule, national exposure, etc and play a team that's at least somewhat strong.

So I guess every major team plays at least two cupcakes per season now?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Wish we had a real opener

Jan 24, 2017, 2:42 PM

FSU vs Alabama will dominate the press that 1st weekend regardless of who we play.
We need a KentSt game to make sure our QB and O are ready.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

"Real Opener's" kill seasons for teams breaking in new QB

Jan 24, 2017, 3:37 PM [ in reply to Wish we had a real opener ]

Losing your opener isn't the type of press we want or need.

Yes, every major team plays two "cup cakes" for good reason.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

We do have a "real" opener.

Jan 24, 2017, 4:05 PM [ in reply to Wish we had a real opener ]

As Coach Dabo wouldn't hesitate to remind all of us, there's no such thing as "supposed to" when 2 teams take the field. It will come down to our boys against their boys on the field for 3 or 4 hours. Whichever team's players make the most plays & win their match-ups will win. If we're to win our opener against Kent State, we'll have to earn it. We'd better show up ready to play.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Wish we had a real opener

Jan 24, 2017, 5:24 PM [ in reply to Wish we had a real opener ]

You're crazy. Our schedule is hard enough as it stands. Like the other poster said, we need a chance to get our offensive issues somewhat worked out with a new QB, RB, WR, TE and center starter.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Friday at Cuse huh?

Jan 24, 2017, 2:40 PM

Just curious is Bama, OSU, Michigan, playing on a TH or Fri? Hmmmmmmmm?

Guessing not....

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

That's an ACC contract I think.

Jan 24, 2017, 4:26 PM

I understand the motivation for doing this - it provides the conference a national platform with no ratings competition from any other games. Personally, I'm with Dabo on this one - Friday nights should stay reserved for high-school football. I do notice that all of these games are in northern locations or major metropolitan areas, not in rural or southern locations where high-school football is sacrosanct. But regardless, Clemson doesn't really have any say in it; if we must play on Friday night, at least we can be thankful that it isn't a home game.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Crap. We have to play El Cid?***

Jan 24, 2017, 2:42 PM

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

We need to go back and look at the El Cid / usuc

Jan 24, 2017, 2:46 PM

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Auburn not a bad game, but I'd rather have UGA games

Jan 24, 2017, 2:57 PM

A rivalry that just makes sense in so many ways...
Plus KENT STATE??? How many can even name what state it's in? If you're over 50, about the only thing you know is about the massacre there in the early '70s.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

UGA would be great of course, but we don't have that choice.

Jan 24, 2017, 3:42 PM

Kent State is in Ohio. Most people know that ... not that it really matters. It's a decent Mid-America Conference match-up. Much more legit than Furman, Wofford, or SC State.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Just about every Auburn fan I've encountered . . .

Jan 24, 2017, 4:47 PM [ in reply to Auburn not a bad game, but I'd rather have UGA games ]

HATES this series. They regard themselves as a better program in a better conference & see no upside to playing us. Just my general sense that there's far more enthusiasm on our side than their side for this match-up.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

What Auburn really hates is the Loss to us.

Jan 24, 2017, 4:56 PM

xx

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

True that.

Jan 24, 2017, 5:10 PM

What I was getting at is that Auburn fans regard playing Clemson much like South Carolina fans regard playing East Carolina. That is, beneath them, so if they're going to play games like that, at least schedule somebody that would be an easy win.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Know a lot of Auburn fans and they definitely don't think

Jan 25, 2017, 12:59 PM

that. Just the opposite.

Stupid to think we shouldn't schedule the Kent States

Instead of going with another Top 10 opponent. Auburn not a "bad" game??? LOL!!

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Nice staggering of home and away games

Jan 24, 2017, 3:31 PM

Though playing FSU as the last conference game of the year is not ideal. On the other hand the chances of that game determining the division chances are really high, so it could make for an incredible experience.

Seems like it makes the most sense for that game to bust out the purple uniforms.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

It's Senior Day so probably not.

Jan 24, 2017, 4:38 PM

Would be great though.

No reason we can't do both for the same game.

Jan 24, 2017, 5:06 PM

The Citadel would be the perfect game for Military Appreciation Day, even if it is our last home game.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Well, there's also the fact

Jan 25, 2017, 12:48 PM [ in reply to Military Appreciation vs. The Citadel? ]

That the FSU game is on Veterans Day. However I don't see us purpling out for FSU, so...yeah, I'm guessing Citadel.
