Transfer Portal and Basketball Prospects for Clemson

Jan 8, 2020, 1:15 PM

For Clemson Basketball, we all know we need consistent scoring and much better, more consistent shooters, especially from 3.

Here are some transfers that I hope our coaches are sneaking a look at. I'd love for Coach BB to get either of the top 3 guys if there is room for one or more of them.

Ranked #1 by ESPN. Seth Towns, 6-foot-7, 215 pounds, SF, Senior, Harvard (GRADUATE)
The 2017-18 Ivy League Player of the Year, Towns missed the past two seasons due to knee injuries. If he's healthy, he's the clear-cut No. 1 player on this list, especially because he should have two seasons of eligibility. He averaged 16.0 points and 5.7 rebounds and shot 44.1% from 3 in 2017-18.

Ranked #8 by ESPN. Patrick Tape, 6-foot-10, 232 pounds, PF, Senior, Columbia (GRADUATE)
Tape is redshirting this season and will graduate and transfer. A highly efficient offensive player, Tape averaged 11.3 points and 5.9 rebounds in 2018-19 while shooting 66.7% from the field.

Ranked #11 by ESPN. Brendan Barry, 6-foot-2, 180 pounds, PG, Senior, Dartmouth (GRADUATE)
Barry suffered a season-ending injury in September and entered the transfer portal a few weeks later. A knockdown perimeter shooter, he averaged 13.2 points and made 44.5% of his 3s last season.

Others to look at:

Ranked #33 by ESPN. Marcedus Leech, 6-foot-5, 165 pounds, SG, Freshman, Iowa State
Like Anderson, Leech left the Cyclones just before the season started. He was also a four-star recruit in the 2019 class and should be able to find a new home fairly easily.

Ranked #3 by ESPN. Mike Smith, 5-foot-11, 180 pounds, PG, Senior, Columbia (GRADUATE)
Smith is going to graduate and transfer after the season, and he has put forth an impressive season for high-majors to watch. He is averaging 21.9 points, 4.3 rebounds and 4.6 assists and shooting 41.1% from 3 through 15 games.

Ranked #18 by ESPN.. Myron Gardner, 6-foot-6, 222 pounds, PF, Freshman, Georgetown
One of four Georgetown players to leave the program, Gardner provided an interior presence for Patrick Ewing and the Hoyas. He would have three years of eligibility remaining, and he averaged 3.1 points and 2.9 rebounds.

Ranked #35 by ESPN. Skyelar Potter, 6-foot-3, 200 pounds, SG, Sophomore, Wright State
Potter opened the season with 19 points in 21 minutes but couldn't match that production before entering the transfer portal in December. He ended up averaging 6.4 points and 3.1 rebounds but shot better than 40% from 3-point range.
