NFL analyst has Dexter Lawrence No. 1 for 2019 NFL Draft

Big Dex has the NFL scouts drooling. The 6-4, 340-pound sophomore defensive tackle from Clemson is still at least one more year from being eligible for the NFL Read Update »

Yeah, even hurt he's great. Strong enough to fill a running lane even double teamed. Mobile to sack or TFL against a good Oline. Big Dex is special, and not just athletically. Just like DW4.

I don't think he has to be pigeon holed as a zero technique. That's probably where he will play in the NFL but he's athletic enough that some teams may see him as a 3-tech. He isn't that typical fat body space eater like Vince Wilfork.

First of all he is a defensive tackle. Secondly, the second most important position in all of football is offensive tackle (left). Elite Offensive tackles are picked in the top 5 ALOT. And it is not shocking at all for a very elite defensive tackle to be taken number 1. IMO.

0T is a noseguard. a zero-technique. technically a DT.

defensive tackles, especially 0-techs or noseguards, are rarely taken that high in the draft

Yes, he is a defensive tackle, but there's about 3-4 different "positions" a defensive tackle can be. That all depends on where they line up and what their assignments are. Dexter Lawrence is probably a "zero technique" at the next level meaning he lines up in the middle of a 3-4 defense directly over the center or off the center's left/right shoulder. He doesn't play that position at Clemson, but that is most likely where he'll see a lot of time at the next level due to his size.
