Tillman must be understood ‘in relation to his time

Long but interesting history on the complicated individual Tillman. He was good and bad as we all are, but very important in regards to agriculture and 3 colleges in SC. I have mixed emotions on removing his name.
Tillman said of Joe Gibson that, “A more loyal friend no man ever had. Every child that I have would share his last crust with that negro tomorrow ... I do not know whether I belong to Joe or Joe belongs to me ... we have agreed to live together until one or both of us die, and when I go away, if I go first, I know he will shed as sincere tears as anybody. I would die to protect him from injustice and wrong”

Oh, there's no question Tillman did some good in his life. But that whole murdering people offer a stain to deep to wash off. His name was added to the building in 1981. It's not like he donated the building. It's time his name is taken off. There are better Clemson men than him.
