The three strongest arguments FSU should hire Haggins as HC.

Nov 16, 2019, 9:25 AM

Playoff rankings.

1. LSU - Ed Orgeron promoted from assistant to HC.
2. Ohio St. - Ryan Day promoted from asistant to HC.
3. Clemson - Dabo Swinney promoted from assistant to HC.

And, if we go down the list a little more.

6. Oregon - Mario Cristobal promoted from assistant to HC.
7. Utah - Kyle Whittingham promoted from assistant to HC.
10.Oklahoma - Lincoln Riley promoted from assistant to HC.

And, only Orgeron had any prior HC experience.

When I started to post this, I wasn't sold on Haggins being a serious candidate. But, after looking at those 6 schools, I'm not only convinced he SHOULD be a serious candidate, he moved to the top of my wish list.

Everyone seems pretty sold on stoops?

All reports yesterday are that a deal could not be reached with Stoops (Bob, not Mark) and he is no longer a candidate.

#3 IS clearly the #1 reason.***

I’m puzzled...

Nov 16, 2019, 10:18 AM

Why would F$U let Taggart go in mid season if they didn’t already have his replacement lined up???

They figured they'd get the jump on available...

Nov 16, 2019, 10:31 AM

...coaches because they figured Arky, Aubie, Cootie, etc. would be in the market soon. They didn't want to be like the coots last time around who were left holding the bag then ended up with their last choice being Moosecramps.

Cause FSU is desperate and dumb.

A bad combination.

There's something in these hills.

I agree with you.

To me, the best coaching searches are done, very privately and with no publicity, and are done before the guy is fired.

For example, there is no doubt in my mind that Texas A&M had contacted Jimmy Sexton (Jimo's agent) and worked out an agreement in principle, before they fired Sumlin.

I suspect what happened at FSU is due to the fact that neither the AD nor the President has come from a sports background. Both are career politicians.

Because the house was burning down and there was no reason to wait until the end of the season. It also gives them a head start finding a successor.

They didn't need to have a particular guy in mind to fire Taggart. Not sure why many think otherwise.

I've been saying this with a lot of coaching searches

Auburn should probably take note as well when Malzahn leaves for Arkansas

No way I’d hire anyone that’s been apart of that

Nov 16, 2019, 10:32 AM

Unbelievably undisciplined culture at FSU. You’re only asking for further enabling of those clueless players already down in Tallahassee. Start from scratch and hire a disciplinarian I say.

You can buy a lot facilities renovations and new facilities if you are not throwing away money $20 Million a clip on coaches buyouts. Haggins has a long history at Florida state and he clearly loves the place. He has connections and may do a better job coaching/recruiting then did Willie Taggart.

Willie had great connections but it did not result in the ability to sign game changing five star prospects.

In the past years, they have not wanted the right players and they have not developed their players well. Haggins has been a part of that culture, but his players on the defensive line have been well coached for the most part.

Other than saving money, he does not remind me of any of the above listed coaches on that list.

I saw reports when Haggins was named interim that he said he did not want to be HC. Maybe he changed his mind.

Stupid reasoning. Just because those guys have done well in no way means Haggins will.

bretfsu now that Haggins has expressed interest. I won't hang FSU's culture on him any more than pin Clemson's culture on Dabo under Tommy. Clearly Dabo was enforcing his style within his role and, perhaps Haggins has a similar ethic. He had them ready for BC and, frankly, that was totally unexpected.
