Rock 'n roll trivia I learned today ...

Apr 2, 2021, 10:14 PM

Steve Hunter and #### Wagner laid down some legendary guitar work on vinyl on Lou Reed's "Rock 'n' Roll Animal" (one of the greatest live albums of all time). Check out "Intro/Sweet Jane" if there's any doubt. Shortly thereafter, Alice Cooper was looking for a new band, and Lou Reed's guys were available. They cut "Billion Dollar Babies" and "Welcome To My Nightmare" with Alice, and toured for a while with him. Not everybody's cup of tea maybe, but Hunter and Wagner were unquestionably a talented and formidible guitar duo. Most Rock fans are aware of this history. Along about that time, Aerosmith was recording an album, which would include a cover of an old Yardbirds song called "Train Kept a Rollin". This is the part that was news to me:

Steve Hunter happened to be doing some work in another studio down the hall, and the Aerosmith producer sent word requesting that he come up and lay down some guitar tracks for Aerosmith. After a brief run through, he laid down a blistering lead track which became the iconic opening for "Train Kept a Rollin". Sometime later, his old partner, #### Wagner was called in to play the lead track later in the song during the "live" section. As I understand it, neither knew of the other's involvement at the time, and neither got credit onn the album.
