SEC probably wants them to claim them, but they weren't won while aTm was a member, so I don't see how the conference can boast those "titles"

It is intended to pad the credibility of the school as having a bigger trophy cabinet. you know... to "fit in" in the new conference

I hate to break it to some of y'all who have already formed your opinions with out all the facts, but it was actually the Big 12 that recognized A&M for both of those first. In the 2011 big 12 media guide it lists A&M as having 3 big 12 titles. It's a the big 12's decision to count division championships as conference titles, not A&M's. Besides, you have the team running that conference, tu, claiming a national title in 1970 when they lost their #### bowl game.

Hate to break it to you, but the Big 12 Media Guide from 2011 DOES IN FACT show them as having 3 conference titles, but has a "note" so-to-speak that says, "Co-Championships and division titles are included." This would indicate that A&M did NOT in fact win the conference, but perhaps a Division title (as was the case in 1997) or was Co-champion (either of the conference OR division, as was the case in 2010).

To further enhance my argument, if you add up all the "Football" championships from the Media Guide, you come out to a total of 29 championships. The Big 12 has only been in existence since 1996; or up to 2011, for 15 years. You do the math.
