Did Danny Kanell have it right..”SEC buys the best players“?

Apr 27, 2020, 8:21 AM

He back tracked and said he meant “they spend more on facilities & recruiting”.

What you think?

But our money is definitely being wasted. You would think Clemson’s success would motivate our big money guys to do better.

Apr 27, 2020, 9:07 AM

You clowns think it's somehow a monetary issue, and it's not.

It's a cultural issue. Trust me when I tell you, being widely regarded as the program with the most mouthy, ignorant and deluded fans in existence is not a compliment yet you goobers wear it like a badge of honor.

Until you figure that out and stop worrying about everyone else, living vicariously through the other teams in your league, and start focusing on yourselves, NOTHING is EVER going to change.

They don’t have the culture. Case in point from back when they opened their new football facility...they had every cliche that a consulting agency could take their money to give them slapped up on the wall. Why? Because maybe one of them will stick. But they don’t know. Like a kid as time expires on his timed entrance exam to No Fear University, they puked every thing they could think of onto the page. Dabo just puts a slide in.

That is just an asinine sentiment. You think about all the people associated with a college football program, I mean we are talking hundreds of people. You think not just the staffs but support staff, the 85 scholarship players, those player's friends and player's family members immediate and distant now multiple all those people by 10 years which is how long Dabo has been at Clemson and you want me to believe that all those people keep a tight lip on paying players? Sorry but that's just asinine. Let's take a real example. Ole Miss and Hugh Freeze. How long before it came out they were crooked, a couple years? That's what I mean by there is no way you are keeping everything hush hush. Not to mention we are talking about young men who let's face it aren't the epitome of keeping things "close to the vest". Does it never happen? I'm not naive enough to say it doesn't on a case by case basis bc we know Dan Mullen offered the LB'er that Ole Miss and Miss State were trying to out bid each other on money and that is according to that players deposition to the NCAA where he was offered immunity. But to act as if it's a rampant problem is devoid of the facts which I mentioned above. Sorry just don't think for a second it's a problem. Now with this new NCAA rule on likeness and images I really do believe we are going to see a huge problem with boosters over paying players. I think this new rule is a travesty and the end of college football and will ONLY bring other problems because if you don't think there isn't going to be a Title IX issue with the new rule you're insane. Women sports are not going to bring the money male sports do and there will be problems with pay equality. I'm getting off track. Anyways to your point no I don't think everyone pays players, not Clemson, not South Carolina and not 99% of schools there's just to much at stake for coaches and not enough guarantee the hundreds of people associated with the program won't run out and sing to the world the next time you have a disgruntle worker.

The "everyone is cheating" is a cop out for those who are cheating. Where is the proof that everyone is cheating? When a coach lies to a recruit about his school or a school competing for the same recruit, is that cheating or is that just a character issue?

Clemson is criticized for having such an easy schedule and South Carolina praised for having such a tough schedule. I'm completely happy with Clemson's easy schedule, it's a compliment to their dominance. I'm completely happy with South Carolina's claim to having a tough schedule, it's a compliment to their rank as a bottom feeder.

teams like elCid, App State, Virginia, North Carolina, Missouri, Kentucky and Tennessee, whining and crying about having a difficult schedule just makes them look even more sad and pathetic than usual.

The DirtPeckers were 4-8 last year and were d@mn lucky it wasn't 3-9.

That's not indicative of a difficult schedule. That has more to do with simply having a lousy team.

If the proof was so easy to obtain, everyone wouldn’t be cheating. And ultimately the NCAA doesn’t want to rock the boat because they all benefit from it.

The FBI had to get involved just to get evidence for college basketball. And those schools still haven’t been punished.

Put your money where your mouth is cooter. Does it ever cross that thing inside your skull that with Clemson being in the playoffs for the past 5 years straight. Playing in 4 NCG's, and winning 2 of 4 NCG's. Don't you think that the NCAA would have already been asking a lot of questions if they believed that Dabo, coaches, and Clemson were cheating. Heck yes they would have, and they probably have already had ears close and looking in to see if anything dirty could be connected to the Clemson FB program, and if they were doing a secret surveillance on Clemson, they keep coming up empty bc Dabo Swinney runs a clean FB program!!! I'm sure that Clemson reports insignificant rules violations just like about every school does, but Dabo and Clemson isn't cheating to win like the coots want to believe we are, and that comes from raw loser jealousy!!!!

The SEC 's culture is Taylor's made for cheating

Apr 27, 2020, 9:11 AM

Seems about right.

Anybody who thinks the SEC isn't buying players is naive and idiotic. SEC fans who claim "everyone is doing it" same as them ignore the facts. Getting drunk once doesn't make you an alcoholic. Getting drunk 7 days a week does.

The ACC has had a mantra of Academic Excellence forever. The SEC's mantra is "it just means more" in reference to football. Those are seemingly different priorities.

SEC fans pretend that their culture isn't uniquely suited toward cheating and overconsumption on a scale unmatched by the rest of the country.

The SEC is unique alright, it's just not for academic excellence.

Aren't ACC teams Louisville, Pitt, and GA Tech serving probation? Do they have a culture of cheating? What about Oregon, Utah, and Arizona from the Pac 12? I never read posts here about "cheaters" from any conference other than the SEC.

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: The SEC 's culture is Taylor's made for cheating

Apr 27, 2020, 11:42 AM

I believe we were talking football in general, but if you want to include basketball, with the whole NCAA basketball scandal, about 80% of the top teams should be on probation right now. That's been proven to be an across the board issue involving all conferences.

So, I'll give you Pitt, but only the basketball teams for GT and Louisville are on probation.

Oregon is on Probation, but again, Utah and Arizona are for basketball.

So basically, you have 4 SEC teams on football probation, and only 2 total from the other 4 conferences that I'm aware of. Not a good look.

List the examples of each "school, coach, player, and incident of cheating" by the other conferences that prove the SEC's not the most penalized football conference.

Re: The SEC 's culture is Taylor's made for cheating

So you think it's only a problem if it's related to the football program? Ole Miss was put on probation for "inducements." So was Louisville (I guess you could call hookers "inducements"). GA Tech, "impermissible benefits." Mizzou got nailed for cheating, but UNC was cheating and got nothing. I'm not going to bother to look up the details of all the schools on probation.

I'm not saying SEC teams don't get in trouble for breaking the rules. I'm saying they don't have an monopoly on cheating. It's easy to see it that way when you're entire narrative is the SEC (and only the SEC) cheats.

Better? Don't conflate the issue.

(Nobody said anything about basketball. We're all aware the NCAA had a big investigation into Addidas and virtually every basketball conference got dinged).

SEC football programs are what we're talking about here, and they're the worst cheaters in CFB. Boosters and alumni get away with bloody murder by paying players and their families off. It's not even close. As a UGA fan, you should know better than to come on Tigernet and expect anybody to buy your load of b.s. Besides, "everybody" ain't doing it. And, nobody does it like the SEC.

Everybody (except apparently UGA fans) understand that SEC football programs stand alone and by themselves on top of the Mt. Everest mountain-of-cheating.

many many pay and get paid

Apr 27, 2020, 5:37 PM

No way to say all because I don't know that but the pay is, and has been, in many ways.

Mid 50s I worked construction while LSU players worked in the office, opening letters and cooking steaks for the bosses. 2 were Billy Cannon (Heismann) and Jimmy Taylor (NFL HOF FB). I understand they made more than me.

Other ways I know of (a variety of schools represented):

Kids get highly paid jobs for the summer, take their pay over 12 mos. This may include a company car that was used 12 mos.

Every game each player got 4 tix for family/friends. They were immediately sold to boosters for huge prices, depending.

Huge pay for watering a lawn once/week.

House leased for $1/mo.

Big donation to preacher who later helped the family (best guess preacher kept 10%).

Players got debit cards which, somehow, anonymously had $$$ put on them weekly.

Players left the windows of their cars slightly cracked open, miraculously found $$$$ in their cars after games.

Parents suddenly get great jobs when kid signs, working for boosters or even the U their kid signed with.

********************************

What happens is that the coach decides he really wants a kid, tells a booster, turns his back and walks away. Coach doesn't know and doesn't want to know.

********************************
Few years ago a bama player blew the whistle, school denied and he had no way to prove he got anything. It went away. Hw got a bad rep.

*******************************

I cannot say that any of this happened at Clemson but if you can compete...
