Simple football ranking question...

Apr 12, 2015, 10:22 PM

Are we a legit top 8 football team this year and perhaps in the playoff conversation?

Or are we gonna be kinda like last season ranking wise?

At this point I think it's really hard to tell. All depends on how the defense and OL play IMO, while a healthy deshaun is an absolute must. If all the cogs click, this year could definitely be special.

I agree it's early but I'm kinda getting anxious and excited so was just wondering what others thought .

I kinda think it all rests on the D line for some reason. I know we took a hit there. I'm feeling kinda good about the O.

Granted, Watson at QB is special, but this time last year, we didn't know just how great he would be, and we don't know just how great our 2 freshmen signees will be either. They may be just that dynamic, or pick'em when it comes to who is best (that would be a great problem to have). Also, remember last year when we were hearing how Cole was "the guy who gave us the best chance to win". I hope Nick Scheussler is as great as advertised, but we will see. I'm confident in all of them. We have something we've been longing for, desperate for in fact, and that's quality depth. We now have it almost everywhere. We will be happy with our results this year, IMO.

I think we have too many questions to answer to deserve a Top 10 ranking at this point.

1) Will DW be healthy and stay healthy the entire season ?
2) Will this be a reloading or rebuilding year on defense?
3) Will our O-line be an elite/championship level O-line or continue to be the weak spot it's been the last decade or more?
4) Can we stay focused enough over an entire 12 game season with a relatively young team to avoid having a let-down game?

If we answer all of those questions in a positive manner I say we have a legit shot at running the table, winning the ACCCG and making the playoff. Once in the playoff who knows what could happen.

On the other hand, If any one of those questions are answered negatively we have a 9,10 win type season. If the first two are negative it could be an ugly 6-7 win type year.

lol

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

The good, the bad and the ugly of our coming ranking.

Apr 12, 2015, 11:58 PM

The ugly first, we won't be ranked inside the top 12 and might even show up just inside the top 25 due to the perceived loss of defensive players.

The bad, except for ND, FSU and SCAR which will likely drop like a rock after three or four conference games our schedule is soft as a baby's butt.

The good, FSU and ND will be ranked in or around the top ten and GT will probably be right behind them.

I predict we will take a huge jump early with the ND and FSU wins, get a good bump with GT if they don't cave early then slowly climb into contention during the last couple of weeks of the season.

Watson should get some real ESPiN love early and might help us reach the top ten earlier than I have stated. Those guys really love to manage the polls before the committee meets in October.

Will drive Clemson higher in the polls. And of course the team will need to back their leader up ... it bodes positively for Clemson Nation.

I just hope that with this team being you what happened Sammy's Freshmen year don't happen. Getting too cocky because were are doing well and sleep on teams we shouldn't. I know DW4 isn't that kind of guy, but hell we didn't think Tajh was either. Just want them to be in it 100% all the way to the end of the season. One game at a time and get it done.

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I rarely pay much attention to pre-season polls and

Apr 13, 2015, 6:36 AM

usually guard against overconfidence.

Secondly, I don't hold an "us against the world" attitude about polls, for virtually all of them have been perfectly willing over the years to award us higher rankings, when we deserve them.

Thus, I like the one-game-at-a-time approach, concentrating fully on each with a going-for-the-jugular attack. Win, and I believe we will see our stock rising.

An undefeated season will carry us to the playoffs. Our destiny is in our hands.
