Shovel pass

Jul 26, 2017, 7:20 PM

Anyone think we will see the shovel pass used more from our offense this year? Kind of like the jet sweep after the orange bowl debacle. We couldn't stop WVU and the jet sweep that night, but came back the following seasons and essentially became masters of it.

On the flip side, pretty sure BV will never allow a shovel pass to gain yardage again.

There's no telling what we might see from this year's offense. With an unsettled QB situation, but with at least 3 who are quite capable, there's a lot of talent in that position. Same for RB - several should be able to contribute...... same for TE - none are Jordan Leggett, but a Milan Richard may turn into a beast once he has the ball and he could be one of the pieces in your shovel pass scenario.

We aren't the same team we were last year, so we'll need to find out who can do what, when and where..... I think the O will have a decidedly different look to it..... more run, more short passes and deep passes with less slants and intermediate stuff. It should get interesting.

I think the shovel pass had a lot bigger effect on our defense

Than it did our offense. But who knows. Our ocs are inventive

Pitt kept trying to run it later in the game. Didn't work. South Carolina tried to run it with Hurst. Didn't work at all for them. A lot of things that work against our defense early in a game do not work later. We do not have Kevin Steele running our defense anymore.

My 1st thought was Pitt. Maybe didn't work late, but killed us for 55 mins.

The inability to adjust to it and the the TOs late resulted in the loss to Pitt.
