Three quarterbacks. One draft. Three teams. Why did Bears GM Ryan Pace absolutely have to have Mitch Trubisky over Patrick Mahomes and Deshaun Watson?

Providential. Watson landed exactly where he was supposed to. Already beat Mahomes. Has another shot at Lamar this weekend. DW4 is a legend in the making.

Actually, this is easy.

Trubisky was viewed less "risky". Again, it wasn't just the player but also the organization. Put Trubisky on the Pats and he will be on the cover of an EA video game.

Next, 2017, a lot of folks were still thinking RG3/Jameis Winston busts. (Ignore RW3, Cam, etc) Basically, if you were a "new style" more mobile QB, your draft spots were generally lower (look at Lamar at #32). I think DW4 was taken a bit lower for this reason but Mahomes had at least a little better coaching lineage, and the Chiefs are, as an org, more risky with some of their picks.

This was obviously one of the dumbest decisions ever. Never really understood picking Trubisky over Watson. If DW4 performances in the CFB championship games against Bama weren't enough you simply dont know how to judge QB talent. The closest dumb decision to this one was how former NC State coach Tom O'Brien allowed Mike Glennon's threat of transferring made him force Russell Wilson to transfer to Wisconsin. Look how that turned out. O'Brien fired and never a head coach again, Glennon being a career bench warmer and Wilson a Super Bowl winner, pro bowls, on pace to be MVP this season and sure HOFer. In time DW4 will equal if not past the accomplishments of Wilson. Supposed geniuses like Tom O'Brien and Bears GM Pace will quietly live with their dumb decisions.

Perhaps it explains why "da bears" haven't been relevant for decades. Organizations and teams reflect the quality of their leaders.
