Frozen wind turbines

Why are they freezing in Texas, but working just fine everywhere else? I hope I'm not destroying another MAGA talking point.

There's 1200 wind farms in North Dakota. Why are we not hearing about them being frozen? Maybe it's because they're not?

because they went cheap and did not install warmers. Who'd a thunk it that Texas could Freeze?

Right, now each wind turbine needs a diesel generator with 10,000 gallon reserve tank for de-icing! Nice.

yes, exactly, wind turbines take more energy to keep warm than they produce, how did this slip by 1000's of scientists?

Maybe cause of freezing rain? Way more destructive than the fine powder of the dakotas.

I don't know a lot about the situation, but it would seem that a decision was made based on weather history that the cost/benefit ratio of installing warmers favored not doing so? Obviously, based on the coldest 3 days in recorded history in the DFW area alone, coupled with frozen precipitation, the decision backfired. I agree this is a colossal mess. There will be a postmortem as well as it should be.
I'm not sure what your MAGA point is? Going north from TX-- OK,KS,NE,SD and ND are all very red states. So you salute ND which is cold as hell and MAGA country for efficiently running their wind farms. OK.
ERCOT would seem to be a misnomer-Electric Reliability Council of Texas
I remember in 1973 when 17" of snow fell in the Pee Dee area followed by very cold temps. I95 was a big parking lot for days. There was an outcry that the state wasn't prepared for this and had inadequate snow removal equipment. True in 1973, not true since. I'm not saying the 1973 incident in SC is equivalent. It may be shown ERCOT or Texas politicians made an unwise decision based on the science which of course we must follow-always?
I'm glad I'm not there now, but TX will be just fine.

Texas played the odds the way that they should - and lost anyway. Shittt happens. I hope that they are getting back to normal and safety.

My MAGA point is that Trumpkins have been using the frozen turbines in Texas to say "See, Green energy doesn't work when it's cold", even though they are working just fine in many frozen regions.
