got a better meal at Walter Reed. We had fantastic fireworks for the Fourth of July though - even though it was suppose to be a truce.

USMC infantry here. How I made it out of 5 combat tours without a PH is beyond me. Thank u, brother....all I can say to a Nam vet. We look up to you guys. Orwell said, "People sleep peacefully in their beds at night because there are rough men ready to do violence on their behalf". I know you get that just like I do. RIP to our fallen brothers and to them we give thanks.

Being Army infantry, I know the real heroes are the fallen - Not long after leaving Walter Reed, a friend from my hometown who went through Basic Training with me were with a couple of girls and 1 of them said to me, "I never met a real hero before". After she was gone, I told my buddy that I didn't want to be rude, but I really felt like telling her that she still hadn't met one. Some of the reasons we survive aren't nearly as heroic as the reasons the other guys didn't make it back.
