Saivion Smith transferring from LSU

May 31, 2017, 9:17 PM

Former 5-star cornerback enrolled at LSU. Announced he's transferring. Probably germans, but he was a guy Clemson was very high on for almost the whole recruiting process.

Almost guaranteed to go to Auburn or Louisville right?

Interesting. Anyone hear a reason why?

Would sit out this year?

Doubt we're in on him but Clemson was #2 in his recruitment and there's definitely some affinity there.

Scout article says he was falling behind on depth chart

May 31, 2017, 10:09 PM

probably won't be happy at a place with any quality depth.

He's great friends with Rashaun Smith

But I doubt we take him. He'll have issues getting on the field here too.

I'd anticipate a move to safety for him. He'd be a good fit in a lot of systems there.

wasnt he and early enrolle freshman?

or would he be a sophomore?

Why do you automatically assume he's gonna go to Auburn or Louisville ??

Did you assume the same for Dye, Pagano, Baker, or Wiggins ??

If he'd been kicked off the team, it would have been a good assumption.

Auburn and Louisville are two known schools to go after other school's players that leave or get in trouble or get kicked off. I'm thinking this is what he is talking about.

Bingo. Louisville's defense the last two years was like half former Big 12 and Georgia players.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Huh? He only gave it one season?

Jun 1, 2017, 8:45 AM

No thanks, don't want him. He clearly doesn't have what it takes to fight for a spot.

Tough spot for the kid. He was basically a "can't miss" cornerback. He probably still has what it takes and could be a great corner. Problem is that, LSU churns out these tall, 1st round shutdown corners every other season. So it may not be an indictment on his ability, but moreso his willingness to fight for a starting spot.

Probably one of those guys that sees himself as a 3 and done no matter what, and wants to be on the field all 3 seasons.

I doubt Clemson would get in on him as we never really get in on transfers. But he could provide depth at the corner/safety position no matter where he goes, so I wish him well.

The couple times I've seen him around campus at LSU I got the impression he wouldn't be a good fit for the Clemson culture. Who knows what went on in the background but it wouldn't surprise me if he did something to get kicked off the team.
