Road trip 2019

Dec 17, 2018, 12:26 AM

Planning next year's road trip with the wife. We went to Boston this year. Thinking of going to see the Cards or Cuse. Suggestions as to which one is the better road trip. Going to Dallas for the Cotton Bowl. Home turf for the wife. Go Tigers.

Cuse trip last year was good. Flew into Syracuse. Stayed at new Hampton Inn in East Syracuse. Nearby Italian restaurant was terrible. First day we drove 2 hrs to Cooperstown BB HOF. Great trip. Next day we drove 3hrs to Niagra Falls. Then Friday we cruised Syracuse campus. Security guard let us inside for a quick look at Carrier Dome. Game day we parked in the Veteran's Hospital parking garage since I'm a vet. Game sucked. Some fans were ok but some were very mouthy and obnoxious. Our 9 yo grandson had a great time on his fall break with us.

For Cuse we flew to Toronto, toured the city, CN tower etc, drove to Niagrara Falls and spent the night on the Canada side. If you haven’t been there it’s awesome with the tunnels behind the Falls, Maid Of the Mist, etc. We had a rental car from National that we could cross the border with. Crossed over to New York the next day visited Buffalo, had wings. Saw the Finger Lakes. Had Dinosaur BBQ in Syracuse. If you stay at the Sheraton on campus you can walk to the Carrier Dome. With all the orange they thought we were alums staying there. Beer is sold in the Dome. Day after the game visited the Beak and Skiff apple orchard. Bills weren’t playing at home that week.

Louisville we parked at Churchill Downs, bet on some races, had mint juleps. Tons of Clemson fans. Walked to the game from there. Visited the Louisville Slugger factory tour. Did Evan Williams Bourbon tour.

Enjoyed the Cuse trip more but we took more time and did more. your mileage may vary.

Had more fun in Boston than either of those those.

Went to Texas A&M this year and plan to go to Louisville next year. Heard a lot of good things about the fans and venue. Boston the following year. Sprinkle in some Natty trips and seven home games and Clemson football is fun but expensive. Gotta go though while the team is great.

Hands down, you will have more fun in Louisville. Churchill Downs, Louisville Slugger museum, downtown on the Ohio river, plenty of great restaurants, great area to tailgate, fans are for the most part accommodating (versus mouthy and obnoxious). If you drive, I would stop at some of the big horse farms that are available for tour and check out a couple of bourbon distillery’s. Stadium is much better than the carrier dome (while a novelty, is a dump). All and all a much better trip.
