Over 1,000 new covid cases in SC. We've gone from a hundred

Jun 19, 2020, 5:58 PM

and something a day to over a 1,000 in a day. This ain't going well.

It’s only because there are more tests.

The percentage of positives today was 16.1% which is an all time record. The percentage of positives has been steadily rising for 28 days (it used to be around 4-5%). The increase is because there are more people infected.

And you sir are now making up numbers, you need to turn the MSNBC and CNN off, lay off the fear #### (or stop making up numbers if that's what you did).

Friday coronavirus positivity: lowest number of deaths on a Friday since March, deaths down 16% from Friday last week. Most tests run ever at 579,115. Positive rate at 5.5%, up a bit, but many of positives are asymptomatic & in young as testing expands... you can see it here:

Re: He's been sniffing Clay Travis' twitter feed

Jun 19, 2020, 7:28 PM

The real world should not live in fear, it would drive us all insane--you should make decisions and form ideas based on facts and our country is much worse off being in an indefinite quarantine. The kids that play college sports are safer on campus than working out at Gold's gym, they at least have access to far better health care. As we test more, we will have more positives and days with higher rates... It is still better for the country to be open and these kids to be on campus. You can live in fear and negativity all you want, but it doesn't change the fact these athletes are over 150X more likely to be murdered or commit suicide than die from Covid-19 according to CDC data. Domestic abuse, suicide rates and drug over doses are surging for all Americans-- so not sure what your point is, but if you are in a danger demographic, protect yourself, if not, live your life. Have a nice weekend and try to enjoy the many wonderful things our state has to offer, like indoor restaurant seating, open water parks and beaches, golf and many other options! Point being make decisions based on your views, but don't try to scare other people, they need to make decisions based on facts, vulnerability and life needs. Happy Father's Day!

Jun 19, 2020, 7:38 PM [ in reply to Re: You're either ignorant or a liar ]

We won't see effect of these positive tests until early-to-mid July on the death numbers. You do know that people can't die until they get the virus, right?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

***We have 3.5 months of facts and data to already show it..

Jun 19, 2020, 7:50 PM

Death rates are plummeting as testing ramps up... (Presently down about 80% from April highs). You need to stop commenting on this thing because you sound more un-informed today than you did back in March (and I thought that would be impossible). You really just keep embarrassing yourself by making unintelligent comments on this thing like you did 3 months ago.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

stop being dismissive about other people....

Jun 20, 2020, 6:33 AM

he's suggesting that there is a 2-4 week delay in recognized deaths once positive infections start. This has been know from the start in Italy.

SO he's saying that infections today mean deaths in July. It ain't hard.

One can only hope that treatment protocols have improved to the point that death rates will not soar with this 2nd wave of infections.

GOD BLESS OUR HEALTHCARE WORKERS!

nonsense. Scientists are fully capable of determining if it were man made, and it was not. There is enough bad info floating around as it is, so you are not helping.

Jun 19, 2020, 6:12 PM

I am 100% serious when I say I wish Dabo would make every team member bunk with a person who has tested positive so we can get herd immunity on the team. We don't need Trevor or ETN getting a diagnosis the Friday before the natty and having to sit it out... The statistics say that these guys would be asymptomatic or minimal symptoms (cough for a couple days, loss of smell for a week). We need to just knock this out so we don't have to hold our breathe every week wondering who is going to have to sit out.

Because the virus is smaller than the holes in the mask. The only point of a mask is to stop the wearer’s sneezing and coughing from getting on others. It’s more about washing your hands and not touching your face.

Until we begin a national sample surveillance testing

Jun 19, 2020, 7:27 PM

program we will continue to operate in the dark and starve our technology gurus of the data they need to root this devil out.

At home tests via US Postal service. Only 250k each week needed. It's all a locally-run hodgepodge of numbers that most of us here pretty much have to individually guess at as it stands today and since Day One.

I don't see the confidence of families returning their kids to schools in the near future, or schools in a position to accept the liabilities and costs of operating under this environment. Without a controlled flow of data coming in now and onward, it becomes individual guesswork like you see all over this thread. None of this bodes well for football or any other kind of larger group gatherings any time ahead.

Re: Over 1,000 new covid cases in SC. We've gone from a hundred

So what you're telling us is that if you were to become exposed to the virus you'd be ok with infecting others as you went about your business in public , coughing and sneezing the little buggers all over the place ?

You know a mask makes that sort of transmission less likely , right ? You know that's the purpose of the mask ... so that when you're ill or asymptomatic you are less likely to blow the funk all over people while you are positive ?
Not wearing a mask in public is one of the reasons certain parts of the population shouldn't be allowed around the others who are following expert advice .
It's not about YOU , it's about others .

Re: Over 1,000 new covid cases in SC. We've gone from a hundred

Jun 20, 2020, 7:20 AM

I agree. To me it seems logical that masks and distancing would make at least some impact on preventing the spread.

And as long as it impacts any, the inconvenience of wearing a mask isn’t that big of a deal to me. I know I don’t have it but you don’t know I don’t have it. At least I can help a little with a mask... 1). If by some way I happen to get it, the mask may protect at least one other person and 2) by wearing, perhaps I encourage one other persoN to wear or one other person to resume “normal” activities - get out, spend money, keep healthy economy.

I fail to see a sound and (what I feel to be) convincing argument to not wear a mask - I want to do what I think is right and have respect for others. Perhaps there are those who due to other health issues have trouble breathing through a mask — but aren’t these the folks that should really be staying home anyway?

If instead of a mask I had to wear a hazmat suit the inconvenience (and expense) argument may be valid - or if I had to put myself in bubblewrap!

But wearing a mask — it just isn’t that big of a deal — cat least to me, and I just can’t see why folks can’t respect others and do the same.
