Names thrown out for TN HC.
Jan 18, 2021, 6:04 PM

I've seen the following names already. (Probably left a few out. Been surfing the net and these are the names I remember off the top of my head.)
Freeze, Napier, Chadwell, Steele, Fisher
Until an AD is hired everybody is just guessing.
But, what the heck, I'll guess too.
Jeff Fisher.

As in Jeff, former NC of NFL Titans.
He made the comment a couple of weeks ago, "If the job becomes open, of course I'd be interested.

Fisher is no dummy, he isn't going to turn down an offer he hasn't heard. Tennessee is about to pay someone crazy money.

I think you have to see if David Cutcliffe would be interested

Maybe even consider him for AD. His roots are deep in Knoxville.

Agree. Coach Cut has told them "No Thank You" several times already. He likes the lesser stress of Duke and living there.

I think it’s been pretty well communicated by the SEC office that schools are not to look at freeze.

I would already have Chadwell on a plane and tell him to bring enough clothes until his wife can come do his laundry. S. Carolina had a coach 1.5 hours away from Columbia and was too stupid to find him. The guy will turn someone into a legitimate contender in 3 years!

I don’t think USuC even considered Chadwell. Amazing.

I would add Lane Kiffin to the list. It would be a very Tennessee thing to do. After all they hired Fulmer twice. Why not?

I could see that. Extensive ties to Tennessee, would give the Vols instant credibility with recruits.
One caveat is though NFL guys with big reputations tend to do really well with recruiting the first couple years, as the gloss wears off they tend to taper off, and don't usually do really well transitioning back to the college game anyhow because they're used to dealing with professionals and not college kids.
Napier probably would recruit just as well if not better, and he's worked for both Dabo and Saban...and he knows the college game. I'd personally go for Napier but I agree it is probably more likely they get all excited about Fisher's bigger name and go that way.
When has Tennessee done anything smart lately?

They do have a mess on their hands. Several level 1 violations, which basically means the university knew about it. Supposedly Quavaris Crouch was listed as one of the players who they either offered or gave $ to (not confirmed).
The fans want Hugh Freeze who just screams integrity. Sadly, most of them would also welcome Kiffin back after he left them in the middle of the night like a one night stand.
