you ask too much of a coot, conference affiliation is all they have and we've seen very little of a reliable foundation for assertions of superiority here lately.
but the question does lead one to ask just criteria could be used to evaluate. and if we really are talking about conferences, I guess we have to remove stats from teams that are the conference outliers..clemson and Bama on the top end and ?? on the bottom. I guess we would need too to look at trends over the last ? years.
The SEC had something going on in the 90's, but it began to fizzle with the new century. They might still have an edge (let's face it, the ACC isn't looking great right now) but I thi k the edge is hardly more than recognizable...certainly not the stark difference we are supposed to believe.

Taking out Clemson and Alabama since the start of last year against P5 teams OOC, the SEC is 16-13, and the ACC is 6-19.

Actually taking Clemson out the SEC would be 16-10 because I forgot to take away the 2 A&M losses and the South Carolina loss to Clemson.
Interesting enough, if you took away South Carolina(the UVA and UNC losses without even counting the one to Clemson) the ACC would be 4-17, and the SEC would then be 16-8.

Nothing biased about that. We all know speed is the equalizer.
